Confused why people are blaming Hull for this.

The budget was in fine condition before McKnight left in February. The MVA and other programs were restored, there were no talks about RIFs or not honoring new contracts, county council was on track to approve the budget request (or at least a large portion of it) and they publicly praised Hull and the budget department for more transparency and collaboration then they had seen in years. Then Felder came in and ruined it with her ego, stupidity, and her two cronies - Key and Johnson.
MCEA is blaming him for his mismanagement of funds. He’s WASTED millions on useless contracts. I think he getting kickbacks. Makes no sense otherwise.

Speech and language pathologists are useless contracts?

MCEA is just mad that there's a trend toward providing services through non-union contractors. This is true across the country. It's a byproduct of the pay scales that unions have negotiated over the years.

You don't understand how contractual services work. Each individual office determines what contracts the need/use and the board approves th. The COO doesn't decide or determine what contracts are used or spent, just oversees the office that does the procurement process.

Can someone explain to me how this works in a high school setting (the +1 on class size)? Our school is overcrowded and most core classes are fully subscribed. Say you have 45 students who want an AP class, and they usually only offer one section of this class. Would an increase of the class size make it less likely they would open a second section?

The class size piece here doesn't really have an effect, but the overall budget situation means they often won't have staff to support another section.

In MCPS, it is not what you know, it's who you know. Those are the people who get moved up and make these horrendous decisions.

But head of HR?

What’s going on?

Here’s her resume: https://www.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/CR7HK6485A13/$file/OHRD%20Rec%20Appts%20230420%20Public.pdf

Exactly. Another cronyism hire by McKnight and her buddy Shawn Joseph.

MCPS is known for appointing incompetent leaders. And let’s look at the pattern of McKnight leadership appointments with regards to race. Is April a sorority sister of McKnight?

Really? How did she get approved or vetted for this role? You would think a certification would be required for the head of HR in a public institution of this size!?

What, exactly, did Felder and Johnson do? Also, to be clear, Key is a Brian Hull crony. He's the one who brought her into MCPS. She used to report into him.

Felder and Johnson are cutting MVA after it was reinstated in February, they made the decision to increase class size and everything else in this budget mess that wasn't an issue before they arrived.

Also Hull absolutely did not bring Key to MCPS. McKnight did. And she should have left with McKnight when the Jackson Lewis report revealed she knew about Beidleman being under investigation for sexual harassment and didn't report it up to Hull and instead recommended him for promotion.

Hull did bring Key in. He mentioned that he recruited her from NYC Public Schools to MCPS specifically.

What? She came from Clark County, NV. Las Vegas. Hull did not recruit her. McKnight's BFF Shawn Joseph did as the recruiter from HYA.

No, Key came from Clark County Schools in Nevada.

Hull was Key's supervisor. He hired her, with McKnight's (and the board's) approval.
