Has there been a study as to why there are so many bow-wows in the DC area?

I noticed that the men at the Ritz LA Fitness gym were unattractive, pasty, and all the men and women wore big T-shirts and gym shorts. The only cute people were changing room attendants, trainers and front desk. There were a lot of fine looking, mostly black men at the Bally's that is now something else, it's a cheaper gym. So I guess if you went to Harvard it's standard to not dress "sexy" when you work out. I figure a lot of well paid guys in DC live "in their heads" and are self confident enough to wear what they want on weekends.

L.A. (once upon a time) poster here. I wasn't even talking about any kind of "help" other than closer to of-the-moment clothing/ shoes/ hairstyles. I find the neighborhoods PP mentioned to be among the oldest and dowdiest.

Men in D.C. are generally unattractive. Even the gay men are average. I lived in Florida and then California for many years, and the lack of eye-candy was one of the first things I noticed when I moved here.

I'm so happy I'm not single in this city, and I met my husband in So Cal. Besides, no one would want my old withered ass at this point, anyhow.

That's b/c patchouli permeates the air in Tk Pk. It's like the smog in LA.

yeah, i don't know about that. DC is actually one of the fittest cities in the country. maybe its because everyone is always walking around in sweats and sneaks.

But you understand that in LA, women get a lot of "help" to look better. Men have also got in on the act. They get pec and calf implants.

It is all over DC, not neighborhood specific. Though, the more crunchy the neighborhood, the less attractive the men are. Thus, that is why the OP is so dissappointed in the eye candy in CCDC. But, it is not like the women are attractive either. Lots of Suburu driving moms who buy shoes at Comfort One.

I am a federal government attorney and would agree most of us are pretty ugly and really badly dressed but, if you get outside of the public sector, DC does have some good looking people, even by LA and NYC standards. They do tend to live in Wesley Heights, Spring Valley, Kent, Cleveland Park, and Georgetown in the Distric though and Chevy Chase and Potomac in Maryland.

I'm from LA and I have to tell you I strongly disagree. Georgetown maaaaaybe, but the other District 'hoods you mentioned are full of too-casually dressed middle-aged people who tend to look their age. Attention to "fitness" is one thing, but fashion is quite another.

Of course, the look is a bit different, but we have too-casually dressed middle-aged people in LA, too.
