You are misconstruing the pp's comment. The pp was explaining that NK was not considered married because she didn't get married in the church. This is correct. I got married by a civil officiant and divorced. When I remarried in the church and asked the priest if I needed an annulment for the first, he explained that it was unnecessary bc the church did not considered me to have been married. This doesn't change the legal facts, but the church views marriage as religious and doesn't factor in legal issues.

The Catholic church can declare the marriages invalid within the church, but yeah, that doesn't carry over to secular legal matters.

They were young. She brought her daughter to the Oscar’s—the year she one—I think that was after the divorce. The daughter looked pretty young. Maybe 10…

If you believe her kids, then you know zilch about how Scientology works. Tom's oldest two children are going to say whatever Scientology tells them to say, and they will gladly and willingly disparage Nicole.
The only reason Nicole is not attacked by Scientology is because she is following their rules by not talking about the details.
You can see how Scientology goes through people's trash and tried to destroy the lives of IRS employees by revealing their extramarital affairs and alcoholism, etc. Their leader said you must do anything -- even destroy people's reputations -- to get your way.

Yes, most likely. Katie signed a document that said she would not be photographed with another man in public for X amount of time to protect Tom's image. You can see that she was not photographed in public with a man for a long time.
Eventually, photos leaked of her with a boyfriend in a recording studio.
Back when this all happened, I was very curious how Katie escaped Scientology and followed the story.
