Sort of. There is a culture at certain schools of going out a lot - meaning 6 days a week. I think it would be difficult for a kid to be in that culture if they are not going out a lot.

I will add - they may find their dorm to be empty even on a random Monday or Tuesday night.

You laugh, but my son (who attends a different school in Boston) dates someone from MIT and has told me some stories about the MIT parties he's attended...
Many people don't realize this but MIT has one of the highest per-capita rates of Greek life participation....
Greek life is not that important to the students at MIT. We are an MIT family. Greek life is more important at certain other schools (which I won't mention because people like to pile it on to a couple schools on DCUM, and that school is one of them). When these threads are started, it seems that someone is just trying to stir the pot, or interject information on a topic they have not experienced first hand, and know very little about.
In general, Greek life is a more southern phenomenon, to this day. Students don't attend northern schools for tailgating and Greek life, on the whole. But you already knew that, or should have.
40% of MIT is in Greek life. -DP

Really? I am actually excited to hear Georgetown parties. Do tell!! My DC refuses to even apply because they think the social life is boring compared to other comparable schools.
I think that poster must be harkening back to St. Elmo’s fires day. I’ve also heard that there isn’t much of a party scene and kids go to whatever bars will take their ids.
Wow! Y'all "hear" so much! LOL. There is a vibrant social scene at GU, but it is not what DCUM thinks it is. I will leave it at that.

Ever been to Head of the Charles?
Gotta say that’s a tailgating exception. Be sure your silver service is polished for the Big Day.
