+1 this exactly. Thanks for the PSA but good parents already know this. Their kid wouldn’t be assaulted in an Uber because they wouldn’t have allowed them to take one in the first place.

I don’t think you can keep kids completely safe and given the built in accountability Uber seems reasonable to me.

Like coaches abuse kids and we still do sports, we’re just careful. But it’s not like we’ve cut out 100% of sports abuse.

Kids who don’t take Uber alone are not bubble wrapped. They have to have teachers and peers. They don’t have to ride with strangers. Keep reaching.

Not sure that helps. Even if you hang up and call the police they won’t get there in time. And obviously it is not a deterrent for the perpetrator to know they will be caught after the fact because the same is true of a driver (traceable on the app) doing this in the first place.



"Uber tracks employees" is abstract, easy to ignore in the moment. A video chat with a live adult is a vivid concrete presence. Even a mere drawing of a face deters people (to some extent) from actions they know are unauthorized.

A sexual assault isn't a momentary smash and grab and run. It's something that ramps up.
