I am willing to bet a large sum of money the regime will either cancel elections if Trump is the nominee or come up with an excuse why there shouldn’t be a debate because they see the writing on the wall.

Because we want to run the weakest candidate we can find in order to give Trump a chance. It's more exciting on election day when it's a very close race and we need to stay up all night to find out who won. Yes, we realize we could run a more viable candidate that would crush Trump's sorry arse but what's the fun in that?
