long list of homemade ice creams, the hook is there are several that use flavors and botanicals that aren't in the chocolate/coffee/caramel/peanut butter rut.

Caveat--they have a lavender ice cream. I've had a few fancy lavender desserts and am ambivalent since lavender always smells to me like it should be after shave

A homemade cherry ice cream is another thought, there are tons of recipes. You could serve with a high end chocolate sauce or top with shaved chocolate.

OT--I love chocolate and raspberry together, and chocolate and cherry, but I just can't love chocolate-strawberry combo.

I've never had it, but a friend who lives a few hundred miles away now makes a cranberry pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas--it has a glossy curd-like filling and the color is amazing. She puts pics on facebook. So think lemon pie without meringue, only cranberry and a vivid, shiny deep red.

Flourless chocolate cake is impressive and easy. Serve with raspberries and whipped cream.

Ina Garten and Smitten Kitchen have good recipes for this. In my pavlova era I tried so many different recipes and decided I liked Ina's basic recipe as it is adapted Smitten Kitchen with Raspberry sauce.
