I find this forum very useful for getting the real dirt people won't tell you about non-anonymously.
Issue is you have parents with an axe to grind from experiences years ago. They can't seem to move on.

Here is some insight into DMV soccer. Everyone criticizes clubs they are not "currently" affiliated with. Take your question and replace the name of the club with any other club and you will get the same exact answers. Team competition level, coaches, parents, etc. You are the parent, do your homework! Go to a practice and observe, go to a game and watch the behavior of the coach and kids. Coming on here and asking an open ended question is a recipe for disaster.
I have 3 travel players at 3 different clubs because they all needed something different from a coaching and team environment. I bring this up because there isn't one club that is perfect for everyone and unlike in Europe, each team within a club tends to have their own style of play and culture. My best suggestion is to go to practices and games and talk to the parents that are there now, they won't hold back on the +/-s.

But alot of SYA coaches have left, who were better coaches imho. Ellis has done nothing to ensure consistency in coaching nor does he address issues in a couple of the age groups. The club does not have a developmental identity. Just talk to a parent who's in your kids group and should be able to determine if there is a good match.
