Wow. The top Maryland scores were much lower than the top Virginia ones. That usually isn't the case.

5th place student nearly snuck in as one of the top 4 did a poor job correcting an answer and nearly lost two points.

What were the total scores for the top 3?
I think 42, 38, 35.

The test was substantially harder this year vs last year, when Virginia had an unusually low nationals cutoff score.

Chapter->State about 30-35

State->National embargoed until March 30, when all States will be done.
Last year was 35, year before was 37.

Varies by chapter, but probably a little higher for the last individual qualifier.
Virginia was 34 last year and I think 38 before that.

If you're going to fret about anyone, worry about the top kids in the schools with weak programs, who aren't being given the coaching to succeed and who might not even know about the many other contests out there.

TJIMO takes 7 kids, though the top kids are unlikely to participate.

It's for 7/8th grade kids who take geometry or under, so you're right.

Many award winning performers take Geometry in 7th or 8th.

But it's meant to be an introduction to contest math, so experienced competitors are good to defer to junior classmates.
