Northern Virginia region hasn’t finished all of the round 1 interviews yet. There will be a round 2 as well.
Do you know how many in NoVa will have round 1 interviews and how many there will be in round 2?
There are abt 68 applicants in the nova group for round one. They are divided into eight or nine interview groups. Each interview group will pick one person to go forward to the second round. From those eight or nine people they will pick two or three to go on as semi finalists.

* School nominates the student
* Essays (I think there were two) due in early December.
* Students notified if they moved on
* First interview (25 min long with a group of interviewers) (January)
* Students notified if they moved on
* Second round of interviews (also 25 min long with a group of interviewers) (January)
* Students notified if they moved on
* Maybe one more interview (I'm fuzzy on this)
* Students notified if they are finalists
* Various online stuff to replace what used to be the finalists weekend at UVA
* Last interview (25 mins long with a group of interviewers) (end of February/beginning of March)
* Students notified if they received the scholarship (early March)
Circling back to this thread. PP, can you shed any more light on the virtual finalist events? Are they contentious, or more like regular interviews? Did your child ultimately accept the scholarship?

Ha! +1000 people on this thread have no idea of the various "factors" involved.
I don't understand either of these posts. Care to explain?

Um ok. But 100s of kids are nominated, don't make it past the semi, but get into UVA still.
someone asked if there were ever kids that were offered the Jeff but didn't get into UVA.
