During a panel, DC residents voiced their frustrations and demanded accountability from city leaders in addressing the violent crime epidemic that's plaguing our nation’s capital.

DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb’s response: “We cannot prosecute and arrest our way out of it.”

Wow. What a nutjob

Prosecuting and imprisoning people hasn't ended crime. It's time to try something else.

Who on earth said ending crime is a plausible goal? Prosecution and imprisonment aren't methods to end crime, they're methods meant to hold people accountable for when or if they commit a crime.

Your goal is a false hope and dream. You need to learn more about human behavior.

We have Vision Zero. I don't see why we can't extend that crime. Crime only exists because society has subjectively determined that some activities are illegal or immoral.

Should we legalize home burglaries, car theft and random violence?

There should be free courses with interactive discussions on these topics and teens and their parents should be required to take them together.

So you're an anarchist. Got it.

Parents

This^. If parents can't stop their children from committing crimes, they need to be held responsible. If nothing else, irresponsible people would think twice before leaving their kids to their own antics. If juvenile offenders and parents won't see consequences, they won't see it as a problem. Tie public funds and free resources to good behavior.

Here's a video of the snake, that was called out at the end of this panel, Vinny Schiraldi, head of MD's Department of Juvenile Services, running from reporters asking him for accountability of a convicted rapist who was supposed to be under his department's supervision but was left to his own devices and harmed other girls in his school:

People should be allowed to sue the city in civil court for damages whenever their family member is murdered or they’re carjacked by a criminal that has been routinely let out after multiple incarcerations. If one can show a pattern of gross negligence and failure of city govt to uphold the law and order, then they should be on the hook for millions of dollars in damages by the victims of their policies and failure to do their basic jobs. Things would change real quick if the city faced a mountain of huge and expensive lawsuits from victims of all of these crimes thst could easily prevented by locking up violent hardened criminals with rap sheets longer than The Tale of Two Cities.

"There is nothing progressive about allowing violent criminals to rampage through marginalized communities with impunity."

We need to provide these citizens with the wrap-around services they need, so they don't need to resort to a life of crime to survive. The failure is on society for not providing these marginalized citizens a way forward.

NP. Nobody needs to be committing carjacking and dumping the cars a few hours later “to survive”. These people aren’t stealing loaves of bread. They’re terrorizing society.

You don't know that. That's why we need to come to an understanding of this problem.

The recall group raised $54,000 in just 10 days. That’s incredible and gives me hope. We are donating today.

You do understand that you are potentially taking the risk of locking up the next Einstein. Are you willing to take that risk? I'm not.

Um, you are joking, right?

This is the crazy part. We are not talking San Fran or Bahamas or a favela but DC.

We have done this to ourselves deliberately.
