Some real sociopaths on this board. Clearly these are people that are borne without a sense of empathy. Or had terrible parenting. I'm sure these are the same people that never remove the snow from the roof of their car and wait until it turns into a sixty pound sheet of ice that eventually blows into the car behind it.
Calling code enforcement is the right thing to do. Maybe fines will change behavior. And then proceed with some pettiness. Always park cars in front of their house. Let the neighborhood dogs use their front yard. And don't bother picking up because that would be trespassing, right? It's just fertilizer anyway. It'll go away on its own. Why bother.
Calling other people sociopaths because you are too lazy to put on boots and walk in the snow is pathetic. We don’t owe you a shoveled sidewalk. Your entitlement is showing. Buy some boots.
NP here. The civic minded thing to do is to shovel your sidewalk. I had to go shovel my elderly mom’s walk because I would feel terrible leaving it unshoveled. Once the snow goes through a few thaw-melt-freeze cycles walking in boots won’t help. It’ll be an uneven, icy mess.
Maybe there’s no law but it’s what good people do. And if you have a disability or are 80 years old, hire someone!
Hired many shovelers lately? Nobody’s knocked on my door for years with a snow shovel in their hand.
Our neighborhood has teens shoveling. They post on the listserv and many people seem to use them. And this is in Bethesda where everyone assumes the kids are entitled but apparently not so entitled that they won’t do some shoveling on a snow day.
My kids have better things to do than shovel for a bunch of whiny complainers. Walking in snow is not difficult.
It's for pay, not volunteer. And what are your kids doing on their 3rd snow day of the week that is so valuable? Getting to another level in a video games?
They are highly productive without being in school. We don’t need pocket change from people who cannot traverse a few inches of snow.
OK, Ayn Rand. Please go say this to the face of my neighbors whose teenage daughter has spina bifida and walks effortfully with leg braces that don't fit into snow boots and has poor balance on uneven or unstable terrain. Tell them that their daughter should be able to "traverse a few inches of snow" because it's "not difficult" and that she deserves to be trapped in the house all winter, because who wants to see those defective people in public anyway? It's their own fault for being that way and they should just lump it. Tell them what a bunch of whiny complainers they are for having the temerity to worry about their daughter's safety and mobility. "How our amoral selfish family stuck it to the crippled loser next door," that'll be a unique college essay topic!
You realize we get at most 1-2 weeks of snow a year lol.
All the more reason that refusing to shovel makes you a jerk. It's not like it's constant or you have to do it very much, yet you still can't be bothered.

Anonymous wrote:I am not shoveling the snow on my sidewalk right now because there is ice underneath. It's currently safer to walk on that snow. If it gets warm enough that the ice can start melting then I'll try to remove it.
