I haven’t seen anyone blaming Biden or the liberals, that’s weird. Closing everything for Saturday and Sunday on Friday afternoon when the snow has already stopped is indefensible though. They aren’t even trying.

I’m disappointed that rec basketball was cancelled today, but some of the comments I’ve seen from parents (not just on DCUM) on the subject are unhinged. Nobody cares about the children. It’s the liberals. It’s Biden’s fault. Arlington is a communist state etc. Get a grip.

Other activities were cancelled today because those organizations “follow APS” for closures. Ridiculous.

Has anyone been by schools? Did APS get parking lots and sidewalks treated?

They are.

Zero reason they couldn’t get to all their facilities and pre-treat and plow parking lots. Less than zero. The snow that fell during the day yesterday was flurries that didn’t stick or accumulate a lot. Once properly treated the refreeze issue is a lot less of a concern.

This is their job to plan for and manage these situations. People complain about APS so much on here for what I think are unfair things a lot of times and then something like this I don’t get all the apologists. These are basic services they’re not providing.

Because children’s basketball and indoor soccer games are not as important as access to hospitals, urgent care, gas stations, grocery stores, commerce, etc.

That's exactly the point. A lot of people in Arlington who makes these decisions place very little value on these activities. The children, however, do not. The children place a lot of value on these things. And I place a lot of value on the children. We are taking things away from them. To some people, it feels like small things. But to our kids, these are big things. And it infuriates me.

Two weeks ago, LCPS closed Saturday activities on Friday, even though the eventual actual weather did not require closing.

Libraries were open today (other than Glencarlyn) and are open tomorrow. Parks and rec facilities were open today and will be open tomorrow 10-5. Arlington’s snow ordinance requires individuals and business to clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of a snow event less than 6 inches. And yet, somehow APS can’t open a single facility until Monday? Even though the 3 pools that are co-located in high schools are open tomorrow? It’s just so stupid and lazy.

Big things should be quality time with their family. Not a rec basketball game that will happen again next week when the snow is gone. My kids love their activities AND also were not at all sad to miss them for the snow.
