Why does this matter?
No one should be choosing to attend a school based upon this info. However, the fact that these schools recruit together says something about which institutions the schools themselves consider to be their peers, at least in terms of the student caliber they want to attract.

Same league of student. Last year's UVA class had a 4.51 GPA at the 75th percentile, a 34 and/or a 780 in Quant/ and 750 verbal. lots of my kids (my own included) applied to selected IVies and UVA.

Athens has terrible crime.
+1. Charlottesville ranked A here for best places to live. Atlanta a C. https://www.niche.com/places-to-live/charlottesville-va/

UGA is a peer now.
That’s funny. UGA needs to get ahead of Michigan, Florida, and UNC before it even has a crack at UVA.
Michigan and UNC are ahead of UVA.

Athens is a little bigger. But CVille has the Downtown Mall area and Main Street has gotten much more lively connecting the University area to downtown. I also like the surroundings around UVa better - Blue Ridge Mountains are much prettier. Better hiking. Athens in general is flatter.
But, music scene is much better in Athens - and back then REM members would randomly be hanging out.
