Of course if the other family invited their kid over, there would be no need to be dramatic and OP can either accept or decline. It does suck to feel obliged to always host another child, especially when it comes with a guilt trip if you say no (Johnny will have no one to play with tomorrow, would it be OK for him to come to your house?)
