I suspect the PP's kid was choosing between West Point and a full tuition + stipend ROTC scholarship at Princeton which is almost a full ride. I had that same choice in the 80's (and chose Princeton).

It's the same thing. It doesn't matter which school your kid goes to (Chantilly, Centerville, McLean, Langley, etc). You are being compared to other students at your school. So a B+/A- will not get you into UVA and VT engineering. Other big OOS publics or tier II privates/SLACs are likely your targets. So it's sad that a TJ kid with a B+/A- grade won't get into UVA but likely if they were at their base school earning a higher GPA. A bit generalized, I believe NOVA public schools' B+/A- kids are all competing for the same spots. The lesson is to go to a less competitive FCPS school and earn a higher GPA if a higher ranked college is your goal.

This is delusional, gpa is too low for nearly all these schools except the slacs and BU.

May I suggest Grinnell, Bates, Denison, Davidson ED. My kid's friend with a similar academic profile and similarly talented got in ED at Davidson.

Dp, but as as I posted before, they love private school kids. I think it’s possible.

Once upon a time, yes, but now you need a at least a 3.75 from anywhere, with the possible exception of really big state schools in the T25 that take a lot of kids (if you want that).
