We can use those vacancies to hire more energized people.

Frederick, huh? That’s a pretty specific example.

Here’s the thing, it’s not going to attract more energized workers. The slackers are going to complain and moan but they aren’t going to be able to get hired elsewhere, so they will grudgingly return to the office. The high performers who are still energized and motivated will look to make the jump to the feds, where they will get a COLA and retain hybrid flexibility.

Yep.

Nice try. Most private companies telework 2-3 times a week and they are paid 2-3 times government salaries

I'm sure the apocalyptic view out of any DC window makes you think that but the economy is thriving out in the burbs. We are all spending our money at gastropubs and happy hour spots out here.

How are the workers subsidizing commercial building owners given DC owns many of its buildings and otherwise are on long term leases long since executed?

Exactly. I've asked my employees to come into the office 3 days per week. It's important that people see and work with each other.

DC employees already have to come in 3 days a week. The new policy mandates they come to work 4 days a week. As PPs have stated, non Union employees haven’t even received a COLA the past year even though the Feds have received 5%.

So DC employees had a pay cut the past few years because COLA was only 3.5% total in the past three FYs and they have to show up 4 days a week now and pay all the commuting costs that come with that. I wonder how valued these employees feel?

So uh, asking for a friend.. anyone have any idea when the COLA for non union employees is coming?

I would love to know as well. I haven't had an increase in probably 4 years. I am in management and don't qualify for step increases either.

This. With inflation and the failure to give a COLA, DC employees have effectively gotten a pay cut. Now they have to spend their money to keep the city humming while everyone else is working from home? Great for morale.

Humming along? There’re not enough DC employees to do that. As for their morale, who cares?

And now they want to ruin everyone's morale just so that some downtown restaurants can make a buck selling mediocre sandwiches and salads for an overpriced $17.

Preach!

Obv typos all over.

They’re too busy stuffing their pockets.

Time for Muriel Browser (or whatever her name) is to go.

Her incompetence won’t fix DC crime OR grime.

Getting workers “in office” is BS for loser city governance.

Just like the WH two-faced policy of “wfh for the haves, slog it for the have nots”.

This country has gone to the dogs.
