Sounds like it could be a daddy ball scenario to me? I am surprised that he would get a gig with Nova Cavs after coaching CYA lower travel, but interesting to say the least...

Bermudez for some reason organizes CYA AAU teams, but I guess it isn't good enough for his kid, so he is coaching Nova Cavs instead. So there's a connection.

That obviously tracks. It seems like from what I’ve read, Bermudez/Weinstein both brought their kids over to the Cavs from CYA.

Is Weinstein a female? If so I saw her son working out with VAElite. Some of the Chantilly High School coaches are at VAElite.

Weinstein is not female. Weinstein used to be Bermudez asst coach I think.

Bermudez is trying to help over at CYA, but the board is terrible. It’s just not a good organization if you want competitive basketball. And politics are big over there too.

What do they do that's terrible? Their rec league is huge, they should have a big pipeline of players.

Not going to get into the politics, but if you do a search you should find threads explaining whatever you want to right here on dcum, but if you want your kid to develop into a better player, there are better organizations.

Anonymous wrote:Our DS played for Nova Cavs one spring/summer season. Coaching was good and fee was reasonable, lower than other nova teams. He didn’t get enough playing time because the coach had preselected the team unbeknownst to us. DS showed up at tryouts without any hooks but impressed the coaches and got an offer within a day. He stuck with the team, despite less playing time, because DH and I weren’t going to shell out more $$$ for another team mid season with no guarantees. At least his team practices and scrimmages were good and close to home, but DS felt like he wasted a season.

Thanks for sharing, much more concerned with the coaching than we are with playing time at this point. I understand how competitive these teams are to make, especially for athletes going into their sophomore year. My DS is so set on the Nova Cavs or Nova94, which is why we keep trying to find out about these 9th grade coaches.

How many minutes did he get a game?
