The Target in my area has been closing the doors and self-checkouts on one side of the store because they don't have enough staff to man that side. The line for the other bank of 9 self checkouts will be super long and the ONE manned checkout lane will be super long as well.
My Giant put a 20 item or less limit. So dumb. I ignore it all the time. Why? Because they only have 1 manned checkout open and it always has a huge line. The self-checkout monitor over the weekend told me "ma'am, you have 25 items" and I pretended I was deaf. I was in and out before 2 people moved through the manned checkout.
Because the rules don’t apply to you?

Yes. When it was first introduced it was as you describe and I liked that. Then the stores went overboard. I'll wait in line now just to avoid the self-checkout.

Good
If I'm doing the work then I should get 25% off my groceries.
2 minutes at $15/hr is 50 cents. After taxes, maybe 30 cents.
It takes me much longer than two minutes.
