Its hard to say. The people who were there on first contact (from which the English withdrew and never contacted again), were gone 80 years later at the second attempt at exploration, having been conquered by a different tribe who stole their land. So the English tribe then conquered the conquering tribe. So, whose land was it and whose land is it now?

Agreed. At what point in history are we supposed to return to? Get over it, your ancestors lost. Now try to move on and live well in the society that now exists here.

You are an awful person. All that past pain is something to remember and recognize the abuses going on today as tribal lands still shrink and protections erode for pipelines. They can do this to other communities but choose to continuously abuse the indigenous people. Everyone twisting this history of extreme abuse and making light with their posts has something wrong with their minds. Imagine your own children being stolen from you to be brought up in some backwards faith where empathy extends one way and is used as a weapon. You were learning to be racists since birth and it stuck, congratulations on that mental impairment you pass on.

Somewhere in Poland is a house that belonged to my grandparents before they were disowned and expelled. Should I go and ask to have it back?

+1 It's quite funny.
Every time a similar topic pops up, most Americans are "meh, history is written by the conquerers, that's how it's always been and no need to feel bad about it." However look at all the heartbroken, stressed out folks (even on DCUM!) over conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine, etc...

We can at least be more consistent - "meh, history will play itself out so let's sit back and see who wins the fighting in the Middle East/ (insert any on-going conflict)" instead of "ohh this is not right, there are victims dying!! We must stand up for justice!!"

Funny, I feel it's the opposite. Americans are expected to feel guilty for living on "stolen land" but Palestinians are CURRENTLY being forced out of their homes with incredibly violent methods (over 10,000 dead this year alone) and we're supposed to cheer on the Israelis? It's a very interesting double standard.

Blah blah blah.

The first reference to “Israel” as a land inhabited by Jews, known as Israelis, dates to 1205 BCE. Nearly 2 millennia before Islam even existed. If we’re going to play silly games about who is “indigenous” to a place, let’s at least be factual.

As it happens, I don’t really care about that. Israelis generally subscribe to Judeo-Christian western values. They are a democracy. They respect indivisible rights. They don’t hang homosexuals or legalize the beating of women. In short, they’re better people.

Lands change hands across history. While it’s by no means assured, we are fortunate that the best (though by no means perfect) nations, for now, have done the best.

They actually dont. For example, Jews believe Jesus was a false prophet who's burning in hell. Muslims believe Jesus was a revered prophet and actually respect him.

Jewish theologian here, and Jews do not believe Jesus is burning in hell, and I have no idea where you got that from. Judaism doesn't even require a concept of hell to begin with.

Land rights have been fought over throughout human history. That's like what most wars were about.

Many Jews have said incredibly disrespectful things about Jesus. H3 was joking just a few months ago about how the Jews killed Christians and how he'd do it again. Considering Jesus is the foundational figure of Christianity, that is almost unfathomably disrespectful. Now that everything has popped off in Israel Christians are supposed to feel some kind of kinship for Jews and rush in in solidarity? What on earth?

*jews killed Jesus, I meant to say!

And Christians have never, ever said anything disrespectful about Jews. /S

H3 should apologize, in my opinion, but they haven't asked me for advice yet

When Christians say anything even slightly critical of Jews, they get called anti-semetic and their lives essentially ruined. Lots of Jews have done extremely anti-Christian things (and anti-Muslim) and gotten away with it completely. Sacha Baron Cohen, anyone?

Please stop it’s obvious you know nothing about history, especially not early Christian history and how the church was established. Jesus was born, raised and died a Jew. He never thought of himself as anything but a Jew. Likewise, early Christians never considered themselves as anything other than a sect of Judaism. It was only CENTURIES later, when the Romans adopted Christianity, that that the big distinction was made.

To say that Christianity has nothing in common with Judaism, (and no more so than with Islam), when it started off as a sect within Judaism, is like saying Americans have nothing in common with the English, not anymore than they do with the Pakistanis. It’s ludicrous and ignorant.

Also, you obviously know nothing about Judaism. There is no hell in Judaism.

Please open a book and read it. Thanks!

Is this a joke? Jesus, who called himself the Son of God multiple times, was not a Christian? I'm gonna try to give you the benefit of the doubt and hope that you dont realize how disrespectful everything youre saying is to Christians. Fundamentally, Jews and Christians disagree about the most important tenet of the Christian faith, as well as many, many other principals (too many to mention)

Also, given that logic, then Jews should be talking about "Judeo-Islamic solidarity" given both religions started with Abraham. But no, it's only Christians who are expected to advocate for another religion despite a lot of hostility directed at them from members of that religion. Maybe because theyre the largest voting block in the US, hence the faux, one sided "solidarity". It's absurd at this point.

Also, why do you deign to pretend to know anything about Judaism and its values? You didn’t even know that there’s no hell in Judaism. That’s as basic as it gets. Why don’t you just admit your an antisemite (and a very uneducated one at that)?

See, and there it is. The "anti semite" slur whenever someone criticizes the Israeli government or is at all unwilling to show support for Zionism. Please. This is why people are tired.

No, I’m calling you an antisemite because you are attacking Judaism and Jewish values. If you were a real Christian, you wouldn’t criticize the values from which Christianity was born. The only reason you are doing that, putting down the values of Judaism, while being completely ignorant of the religion and its values, is because you are an antisemite. And like I said, a remarkably uneducated and ignorant one, but that’s no surprise.

You have no idea of what makes a Christian as evidenced by the fact that you keep trying to say that Jesus's disciples were Jewish, again fundamentally misunderstanding and deliberately disrespecting the most central aspect of the religion. And then trotting out the magical term when you get called out. It's not going to work anymore- stop deflecting, people are sick of the games.

No, you have no idea about your religion and its history. And for the record, I am a Christian, just an educated one.

You obviously arent educated or even good at basic criticial thinking. Jesus believed He was the Son of God = not a jew. Duh. I mean how can you even attempt to reconcile two completely contradictory concepts? You're insulting yourself and your own religion, as well as everyone else's intelligence.

But anyway... I agree with others, it's not relevant to the thread whatsoever, so please stop derailing with your nonsensical rambling.

Jews believe the Messiah will come at some point. In Jesus’ time, some believed he was it and some didn’t hence the split. Jesus and his followers were indeed Jewish. How is this debatable? PP is being intentionally dense and antisemetic.

But yes, back to the fact that many Americans are hypocrites about return of land rights….

I can see that you’re very opinionated on stuff you don’t know like history, but can you grasp the concept that during Jesus’s life he was spreading his gospel to other Jews. And yes, the early Christians were a small sect within Judaism.

Read a book about early Christianity. If you’re too lazy to do that, watch a documentary about it on the History Channel or something. Jesus never at any point in time considered himself as anything but a Jew.

How do you not understand that if they believed Jesus was the Son of God they fundamentally cannot be Jews? This is the most basic concept I'm not sure how it escapes you.

Wow, I feel so sorry for any teachers your ever had. I will try to explain it in terms that maybe you can understand.

Do you know about the Mormon church? They are Christians who have an additional prophet, Joseph Smith, but they still view themselves as Christians, even though other Christians may not. Most people would agree that they are a sect of Christianity and not a completely unrelated separate religion.

The early Christians, including Jesus, were like the Mormons, in that respect. They still viewed themselves as Jews, even though they had an additional prophet. The other Jews, viewed them as Jews, too, during Jesus’s life.

Does that make more sense to you? I doubt it will, but I tried.

Seriously, read a book.

You can attempt to twist and come up with whatever ridiculous excuses you want. Can a Jew believe that Jesus is the Son of God? No, because if he does, he's a Christian! It's really simple. It's amazing how youre gaslighting and browbeating people even on their mostly deeply held religious and spiritual beliefs, just to gain political support for a war. Cut the BS.

By BS, you mean historical fact. I give up. You are too stupid.

Cut the BS.
