That is a hard situation—she’s very social and OP not as much. I always dreaded that kind of dynamic and am so happy my DH and I have similar social tendencies now. It wasn’t always that way, but we found a medium that works. OP you have to find that balance obviously. Try out different solutions.

For my in laws, I could do up to 2 weeks. They are chill and don't expect to be entertained or waited on so I can do my own thing when they are visiting or when we are visiting them. For my mom, I can do about 4 days of her in our house before I'm ready for her to leave. She nit picks, expects attention at all times, and can just be exhausting to deal with.

So it completely depends on how they behave.

We have a loose rule that you get to be in guest capacity for 3 days (we plan and provide all meals and plan and execute fun outings); if you’re still here after that you’re in housemate territory and on your own.

Same here, my MIL literally picks the lengthiest stay, cheapest Wednesday flights, and expects to have everything she does or eats paid by us, in order to “make it worth her while,” as she repeatedly has said.

And yes, they have millions in the bank, in rental properties and in the stock market.

Don’t forget expecting a ride to and from the airport while choosing the airport that is 90 minutes/ 2-3 hours in traffic away over the one that is fifteen minutes away to save $50 on the tickets.

It does not matter what other ILs do, and how long they stay. Be clear about your expectations, and come up with dates that are reasonable. This does not have to be an emotional decision.
