Well does your kid want to go to school in Chicago or Nashville?
My kid (who lacks opinions in most things) would be able to tell you that in about 5 seconds.

My DC *was* going to ED to VT but that is no longer an option. Doing EA and crossing all fingers and toes.

Only 35% go to a 4 year school and it’s mainly in state and then there are some each year who go out of state/to elite schools. But Brown shows something like 8 applications on Naviance, Wake Forest 6. Etc. There is no way that those kids all applied ED this year. Maybe 1 or 2 at most. So I think these are mainly RD applicants.

OK. I’ve been looking at this way too much, and I think I agree that it’s transcript requests or submissions. Initially I thought it couldn’t be that because one of the schools where my kid’s transcript had been requested and submitted wasn’t showing any 2024 applicants, but today it’s showing five (all week it was showing none), which I believe is the minimum number required before any data show. I know the counselors have been working this week on getting things submitted for Nov 1; I assume that yesterday they processed a fifth request, so today it’s showing five. They are processing all requests at once for students, not just the schools with Nov 1 deadlines, which is why the numbers are so high.

I’m now officially done reading these tea leaves.

My data point - unless it differs by school, I do not believe 5 is the number required before any data show. My DD has requested transcripts to all colleges on her list but has only applied to 3 colleges as of now. There are two colleges on her list that she still hasn't applied to but requested transcripts for - the bar chart for 2024 is showing 1 applied for each of those two schools. There is another school on her list - again, she requested the transcript but hasn't submitted the application yet - and that school is showing 0 applied for 2024.

That's my data point - if it were transcript requests, why would two schools on her list show 1 applied but another school on her list would still show 0 applied when she requested transcripts for all those schools?

If it is true applications, wow - a lot of people have been submitting applications to schools already.

I'm pretty sure the minimum threshold to show data does vary by school. I'm guessing what triggers an addition to the "applied" column does, too.

That’s weird since it doesn’t help much and very few apply ED to UVA.

why are you saying this? ED is huge bump at UVA.

UVA admissions is clear that they evaluate all rounds equally. They practically discourage ED applications.

Then why have ED? Many publics do not.

Because uva has a relatively small (remember it’s public bare bones admissions office). It can’t process 57,000 applications if they all come in at once

ED comes in at same time as EA.

I bet they eliminate it in the next few years.

Agree, if you're going ED, Vanderbilt seems to reward the effort/commitment.

Vandy also clearly cares about rank after that leadership meltdown, so they will figure out a way to move up again.

Interesting. I saw a number of kids apply ED2 to Chicago but didn't know any ED1 last year. Multiple applied elsewhere REA and didn't get in and then applied ED2 to Chicago.
