Phillip Sharp, the professor you mentioned, went to Union College and UIUC. Berkeley, UCLA, and Michigan (among other public universities) have had multiple graduates who have won Nobel Prizes. You think they are going to brag about that or how many Rhodes Scholars attended? In the meanwhile, this is a thread about the Times World University rankings where UVA isn’t anywhere near other top public universities from this country. Here’s another shocker; no one is currently doing any research with Einstein. Then again no one ever did any kind of research from a Nobel Prize winning graduate who attended UVA. Perhaps that’s why its world rankings are so dismal.

Research and scholarship are what make universities famous. When a school has produced zero Nobel Prize winners and aren’t particularly known for research, they are an afterthought in world-wide reputation. This is so evident in international ratings where UVA is dismally ranked.

Again, you must not have much experience abroad. You should travel. It has the potential to broaden your narrow worldview.

It makes sense when UVA fans claim it’s one of the top universities in the south, & is a great in-state option. But when they claim it’s some sort of bigtime player worldwide they are way way way overplaying their hand.
