Any thoughts on how the looking shut down may impact fed hiring? Currently interviewing for a role and I’m wondering if the agency might expedite to hire before shut down or if it will essentially just grind to a screeching halt.

Still no speaker of the house so nothing can be done for the budget or to prevent the shutdown.

Any news from the insiders on the October thread? Or is it just too early to tell?

I suspect the only way he gets the votes for speaker is he pledges to hold a vote on funding, which is what got McCarthy ousted to begin with.

Well if Jordan is elected Speaker he’ll have no problem with a gov shutdown. I’m fact he’d probably relish it.

DP - it's also very possible for them to pass a separate appropriations bill for, say, DOD or DHS, and leave the rest of us twisting in the wind. That would eliminate some of the worst press ("military spouses left hanging!"), which seems to be one of the few things they care about. Sigh.
