Just like Germantown is part of Muy Norte Potomac and Aspen Hill is part of North East Bethesda.
Ignore the haters, op. You are correct.

Ruined? When was it ever good?
Wow. So ignorant.
Was once very prosperous.
so WVA enjoyed one decade - the 1970s - of prosperous times yet it wasn't able to absorb the hit when energy prices bottomed out in the 1980s. and the leaders, even today, have not really pivoted from coal, as they're still hoping for a return to that bygone era. with that 10 year run of "wealth creation", what did the state do?
and yet today it ranks somewhere in or near the bottom 5 of all states for nearly all socio-economic indicators. and it's the 6th least environmentally friendly state in the country. talk about ignorant.
When will the be coal wealth return?
Native WV person here. These tales are all so uninformed.
WV was surveyed by George Washington. A lovely area, but not conducive to farmland because it was once a plateau, with deep river valleys worn over millions of years. The flat parts are the tops of the mountains. The New River is one of the oldest rivers in the world.
First it was attempted farming, then logging old growth. Then coal was discovered and the mineral rights were sold pennies to the dollar, because landowners had no idea.
We are a hardscrabble people. The idea that there are “leaders” is absurd. The issue for the state is that it has mostly been bought and owned by rich barons of many industries, and shysters, and corruption. There is a reason Rockefeller and Byrd were key names. The rest of us are small landowners raking a living from the ground, or under the earth, ir at Walmart if we are respectable. The rest are disaffected, with addiction and other issues.
No one trusts the government. Why would you?
Thanks. I appreciate your response.
Do you, or anyone, follow the documentary series “Soft White Underbelly” on YouTube?
The subjects are varied, but they include works on a family in Odd, West Virginia.

WV is literally one of the whitest states in the country.
So no, not part of the DMV. No soul.
When was this coined? DC Native and did not ever hear until maybe 5-10 years ago. I am in my 40s.
I am from actual DC, so I didn't really even know the difference between MD and VA until I went to UVa.
Sorry not sorry.
Agree. And my family has been here long enough that some still call DC “the District”.
People don’t call DC “the District” anymore??? Hmm. I hear it.
Really? I’m a Black 3rd generation DC Native. My parents’ generation usually said “the District “, while younger people (who are now kinda old too) usually said and say DC. I first heard DMV from white people who lived in Virginia, and transplants, starting around the Obama years
Yep. It's definitely a "newer" term.

Anonymous wrote:Jefferson County, maybe.
But I’m from southern WV, and Md is NOT Appalachia. The Appalachian Mountains go up all the way to Newfoundland, surely we aren’t including that as Appalachia? The mountain range and the cultural region are not the same.

It’s been a solid red state for a few cycles, I’m not seeing any improvements…
+1.
Opioids ruined WV, not democrats.
