I was raised in a Catholic area on Long Island. everyone had like 12 kids no divorces omg
Well my single mother of four .( Dad was a complete shit.)Raised four great kids pulled us out of Catholic school because abuse was rampant in ours.
Three doctors and a computer scientist. All well adjusted. No one in a cult.
Yeah single mothers rock.
Single mothers don't rock. You were an outlier.
or not, perhaps the OPINION piece is just confused between correlation and causation.
Do you really believe that?
If you read the actual research it says that it all comes down to resources. Women who have an education and resource have the same outcome as 2 parent homes. Also, it says if the woman has resources, but the husband does not bring resources to the marriage, the marriage privilege is erased.
The vast majority of the women raising kids alone don't have the resources. That's why the opinion holds.

DCUM is supposed to be full of intelligent people, yet this happens more often than not.
Poster: humans are born with 10 fingers and 10 toes. That the normal human anatomy.
Reply: You’re wrong! I have 11 toes so clearly 10 is not the norm!

except it's kids in homes with men that are most abused. I mean sure, they might have more money but they are more likely to be beaten or raped
“Men,” not DAD, as in the kid’s biological father. Huge difference.
Yes, mom's boyfriend is the biggest risk to the kids. Not just and man.
Where do you get your information from?
77% of kids are abused by a parent. "Most child victims are abused by a parent. In 2021, a reported 452,313 perpetrators abused or neglected a child. In substantiated child abuse cases, 77% of children were victimized by a parent."
https://www.nationalchildrensalliance.org/media-room/national-statistics-on-child-abuse/
And, men and women abuse kids equally with more women than men:
https://www.statista.com/statistics/418470/number-of-perpetrators-in-child-abuse-cases-in-the-us-by-sex/#:~:text=In%202021%2C%20about%20233%2C918%20perpetrators,compared%20to%20213%2C672%20male%20perpetrators.
The only reason more women abuse children than men do is because far more women have primary custody of their children or are primary carers of them.
If more men had custody and/or were primary caregivers, the statistics would be different. Men are not in general better at avoiding violence and psychological abuse, one need only look at who is responsible for most domestic violence and violence against others outside the home to know this reality.

There needs to be more screening before pregnancy or in early pregnancy for men with low iq, violent tendencies, psychological or health problems, etc. More than half of boys born in America have below average IQ. Women don’t want to marry men like that. If we just had higher quality men, the problem would solve itself.

Our society makes no sense. Two parent households are better, but we're going to force you have this baby and become a single mother (leaving the father off the hook entirely as we continue to deride single mothers as the problem) and then we're going to shame you for it by conducting a study that says you've done parenthood all wrong, when you may not have wanted to do it at all.
In other words Americans are hypocritical schizophrenics who have no idea what they want, what they value, or how to better their lives. Which, in turn, makes them very susceptible to all sorts of con men/women.
News at 11.
Abortion has been readily available for quite some time. Yet there are so many single parents. They didn't choose abortion, so that's not the issue here. It's weird that someone is assuming they would have aborted their child rather than raise in a single parent household when they had the chance and didn't.
No, abortion has never been “readily available” in many places, even pre-Dobbs. Nor has birth control.
Medicaid covers birth control. It is free almost everywhere. Can’t get people to make the trip to the pharmacy for their FREE medications every 90 days. It isn’t about access. Source: worked for a Medicaid health plan. Frankly most Medicaid recipients have access to a broader formulary than the commercially insured.
Can you go to the pharmacy to get an IUD inserted? I must have missed that. Can a 16 year old girl in rural Mississippi snap her fingers for an OB-GYN appointment to get a pill prescription? Must have missed that too.
https://powertodecide.org/what-we-do/contraceptive-deserts
So are we supposed to build, staff and fund health centers and hospitals in places with no people just in case they might want/need care. There is a pill that is OTC. I'd be in favor of providing a subsidy to move these people from these places with no opportunity to places with opportunity. First month/last month rent, moving costs. One time instead of paying them to live where there is no way out.

Sounds like your mom was a rock star. Yay for her! But surely you can see how that is not the average / typical experience for kids raised in single parent homes.
It's also not the typical experience for kids in 2 parents homes. In 2 parent homes there is more abuse, more arguing, more chance for divorce or staying together when they should divorce.
