I haven’t worked for nearly i decade. I quit as soon as I realized that I really could. My worst day not working is better than my best day on the job. I don’t need to fill every waking moment of my day with something to do, and I don’t need “intellectual stimulation” from a bunch of DMV blowhards.
I know. It is astounding.

I also want to set a good example for my kids who are currently teens. I absolutely will be retiring early though by mid-50s.

Same. I wouldn’t quit working if I had to rely on DH but would quit in a heartbeat if I were independently wealthy, emphasis on the wealthy part. I would not quit working if I had enough money to be comfortable but were not wealthy. I’m not sure what that sum would be, but $15M at a minimum.

I don’t understand why people would work if they don’t have to.
Because many of our jobs are very meaningful. And, I believe that humans were created to work -- to have a vocation and a purpose. Maybe it's at a paying job, or volunteering, or staying home with the kids. But if someone is just a lady who lunches and does yoga and nothing else...that is a waste of a gift, and I don't think that is ok.
LOL 🤣
I know a bunch of these ladies and they are not wasting anything. By your definition of work they are working too, just not for pay. They travel and spend tourism dollars, they help out with grandkids, they bustle around and do meaningful "vocational" things.
