This would outrageous, but it doesn’t quite add up though. The book author would sell the ’option’ to the movie studio. In 2010 the author said he made only money selling the option, not any royalties, which is more common for authors. It was also reported he split that option with the family, which again would not be much.

Now the mom having the lecture circuit where she basically banks on the movie’s name could be the revenues they are going after. But she was a part of that story however unrealistic it was. oher also uses the movie’s fame to sell his own books and lectures, presumably.

He's only just filed to end the conservatorship, saying he didn't realize that was the legal agreement (vs adoption).



If he can prove he never benefited from the conservatorship, they're screwed. But they are claiming he did receive a cut of the movie profits. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out in court.

He's only just filed to end the conservatorship, saying he didn't realize that was the legal agreement (vs adoption).

I agree they are vultures but they didn’t see a chance, their was no master plan just devious maneuvers as they presented themselves.

My post said they saw their chance and took it - they certainly did. They are awful people and basically defrauded this kid. Maybe they thought they "deserved" their cut for taking him in, idk. But you can't say they didn't see an opportunity to make a ton of money and trick someone else into it.

Are you asking how someone could be unsure that they were not making their own financial decisions? Presumably because they are not deciding. I agree that, if it was a limited conservatorship, it could be that he did not know as it would only affect decisions on limited matters.

Interesting. I always thought the movie was making a point that he was actually pretty smart, but that he had very little education. And once he was given an education, he was able to succeed.

I think as the years wore on they realized their was money to be had and they cut him out of that money.

I knew they were scammers and have refused to ever watch the movie. I know someone who tried to replicate this with a kid from Africa who the white family thought would be a superstar athlete and make them rich.

Gerard Stranch IV told ESPN that the Super Bowl champion recently learned that he was the only member of the family not receiving royalty checks, and hired Stranch to begin looking into the situation. That led the attorney to uncover the conservatorship papers earlier this year that showed Oher was allegedly never officially adopted by the Tuohy family.


I know his attorney. He's a good lawyer and a good guy.
