As a previous poster said .....Wheeeee! FCPS is a blast.
And yet it has less vacancies than elsewhere.
Fewer

Instructional Coaches should be too…

Lastly - what is a qualified teacher? Would you rather a teacher fresh out of school? Or a career switcher on a provisional license?
There is a lot FCPS and schools can do.
Stop micromanaging the daily schedule.
Shorter instructional blocks for better focusing
Make all TWD unencumbered and optional work from home.
Make all PD virtual.
Pay teachers for anything extra they do beyond being a teacher for the school.
Have a daycare for each school pyramid for teacher’s kids that is low cost.
Actual maternity leave.
Job sharing (more part time options)
Pay salary that matches cost of living
Actually discipline kids.
I can keep going…
F-Yeah! Block schedule is a detriment to learning and behavior.
Our master schedule has Math at 60 mins and Reading at 60. Too long for little kids. 45 mins is ideal.
That extra 30 mins could be used for something else.
Last year mine had 50 minutes straight of small group instruction. 30 minutes of math followed by a 20 minute intervention block. I had a difficult time planning for all of it (and that’s only that small part of the day) managing it and keeping everyone on task.
Exactly. Small group instruction means trouble for the kids not meeting with the teacher. Shorter blocks gives kids the opportunity to regroup and focus.
My dream schedule…
45 min Math
45 mins Reading
45 mins Writing
15 mins Word Study
30 mins Science
30 mins SS
15 min Morning Meeting
45 mins recess
30 mins lunch
1 hour of specials

Part time I hear a lot of teachers say there are no options for this in FCPS....but teachers want the option.

Good list. I bolded what probably would have kept me there.

Employees need to show a majority support to call for a union election. There is a form the Fairfax Education Unions (FEU, joint FEA & FCFT) employees can sign.
