Except there was evidence of tax fraud, felony gun crime, etc, on the laptop.

Yeah. That's their job- to determine if there are crimes. It's not job to serve as Twitters fact-checkers.

I think it's fine if the FBI alerts social media companies of known foreign influence campaigns. It's not fine for the FBI to learn about people's lives and verify information about their lives to social media companies. If you really think it through, the FBI handled that interaction completely appropriately. "Yes, the laptop is real" -- eg it's not a foreign influence campaign-- "and no further comment." That's perfect IMO.

Did you really just say the bolded? You do realize that the Biden administration has been accused of just that - government interference with SM to censor free speech. And Twitter removed any posts that said the laptop was real.
They didn't do because some random moderator thought it was a good idea.

DP. Your slavering shows why the FBI has been trying not to get the laptop at the top of the news cycle.

If my laptop were found at a computer repair shop, would it make the front page? No. But if it belongs to the child of a political opponent (do you remember when they were off limits?), then it becomes newsworthy? Do you realize how unethical you sound?

Child?!? Hunter is a grown man, he is older than most of posters on this forum.

And yes, I bet if one of Trumps kids put themselves in exactly the same scenario, it would have been even bigger news.

Because you know, every democrats is so kind to president's children.

Hunter Biden is 53 years old. Not a minor child.

We are told that all the Trump children committed crimes and shady financial deals while Trump was president and they must be investigated.

Yet Hunter is a “child” and must be off limits because his dad is a politician?

“In a sitdown with CBS’s “Sunday Morning,” President Biden’s embattled son was pointedly asked “yes or no” if the MacBook Pro that was dropped off at a Delaware computer repair shop in April 2019 was in fact his.

I really don’t know what the answer is, that’s the truthful answer,” Hunter Biden said in an excerpt of the interview released on Friday, before adding, “I have no idea.”

But asked whether it could have belonged to him, he replied, “Certainly.”

“Certainly, there could be a laptop out there that was stolen from me. It could be that I was hacked, it could be that it was Russian intelligence. It could be that it was stolen from me,” he continued.“

https://nypost.com/2021/04/02/hunter-biden-says-laptop-at-center-of-post-expose-could-belong-to-him/amp/

This is really crazy. It’s nuts. It’s his laptop. It wasn’t hacked by the russians. He knows it. He’s lying and people who call him a “child” are just as delusional as he is.

This exactly.

But again, this was going on long before Biden became President, which makes your "the king and his family" comment look really silly.

No, Democrats understand all of that quite well.

But Democrats also understand that most of this happened under Trump's watch and that the FBI had ample time to do so yet failed to come up with any genuinely actionable leads. We're also largely sure that the FBI knows that some of the "corroborating" claims such as the FD-1023 and Bobulinski point to fake info, which is also why they did not pursue it.

The rest of it is what most Republicans don't seem to understand - either that or they do understand but want to persist in being dishonest about it.

This is what I mean. You seem to be unaware that they are currently investigating leads. That means the leads were genuinely actionable. I don't think democrats understand this. They seem to think that the FBI has spent years reluctantly going through the motions of pretending to investigate the Bidens in order to appease Republicans.

I don't see that. What I see is Republicans (Comer etc) holding hearings and trying to make a lot of serious-sounding noise for political purposes, as opposed to anything real from FBI.

My point exactly. You are not hearing the same news, so you are unaware of the ongoing FBI investigation. You hear the news about political theater.

Do you have a credible citation? Are you privy to something that hasn't already been repeatedly debunked?

And, they allowed the letter from "51 former intelligence officials" to be published without any comment.
They knew the truth yet allowed a lie to circulate.
Unforgivable.

Why is it the FBI’s job to suppress the political speech of those 51 people?

Suppressing speech? Nope.
Correcting the record? Absolutely.

And, keep in mind that it was Antony Blinken who encouraged the drafting of the letter.... in the capacity of working for the Biden campaign.
First, Hillary's campaign interfering in the election. Now, Biden's. Seems like a pattern.

How can a campaign interfere in an election? That makes no sense. The whole point of campaign is to influence the election.

Ask Hillary. Ask the DNC. Ask Antony Blinken.
When you conspire to create false allegations and manufacture fake dirt, that is interference, honey.
When you enlist your buddies to lie to the American people using their titles when you know damn well it's a lie, you are interfering.

What is lie in the letter from the intel officials? Post the exact quote that is a lie.

The whole damn letter.

This, specifically, especially the bolded.
In their letter, they specifically claimed the FBI is investigating. This is where the FBI SHOULD have issued a statement instead of letting this lie fester.

It is for all these reasons that we write to say that the arrival on the US political scene of emails purportedly belonging to Vice President Biden’s son Hunter, much of it related to his time serving on the Board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.
We want to emphasize that we do not know if the emails, provided to the New York Post by President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, are genuine or not and that we do not have evidence of Russian involvement -- just that our experience makes us deeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role in this case.
If we are right, this is Russia trying to influence how Americans vote in this election, and we believe strongly that Americans need to be aware of this.

In addition, media reports say that the FBI has now opened an investigation into Russian involvement in this case. According to USA Today, “...federal authorities are investigating whether the material supplied to the New York Post by Rudy Giuliani...is part of a smoke bomb of disinformation pushed by Russia.”

How is that a lie? The FBI was in fact trying to determine if this was Russian disinformation.

The FBI had the laptop in Nov, 2019.
The NY Post article came out in Oct, 2020.
The FBI had the laptop a full year before the existence of it was revealed to the public.
They knew when the story was published that the laptop belonged to Hunter Biden and the images released were real.

The laptop is real. Some of the alleged content is real. But does it show any actual crimes? That's the question. People like the NY Post who only have access to the known tampered images are claiming there are crimes. But FBI hasn't been inclined to agree. Note that the FBI got involved well before Biden's presidency. Trump was in charge when they decided to take a pass on pursuing Hunter for any potential crimes. Meanwhile Lev Parnas and other people in Trump's circle who worked with Giuliani are coming out and admitting that a lot of the things being claimed, like the second-hand account of "Biden received a multi-million-dollar bribe" was a fake story that Parnas and Giuliani intentionally swirled to try and smear the Bidens during the election.

That just didn't happen.
They opened up an investigation into Hunter Biden. They had the laptop. They have been investigating for 5 years.
In fact, Barr passed along the FD-1023 from the informant to Delaware for further investigation.

The IRS investigators never saw the FD-1023. They never saw the laptop.
Biden's DOJ tried mightily to bury evidence in an effort to protect Hunter Biden and his father.

They didn't expect whistleblowers to go to authorities with evidence.

And, BTW - that FD-1023 - a very credible source went to authorities with that information.

"It all comes from a confidential FBI source – previously described by both Republicans and Democrats briefed on the matter as credible"

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4108735-republicans-release-fbi-form-alleging-unverified-biden-burisma-allegations/

The FD-1023 is based on false information planted by Rudy Giuliani and Lev Parnas.
