In these instances I still leave 10 bucks when I check out.

Same. This was not a thing where/when I grew up and I don't even think about it.

Same where I grew up (in another country). It’s a hotel service that is included in the price. I would no more tip for this than I would go into the kitchen of a restaurant and start handing tips out to chefs. I assume that hotel maids and restaurant chefs are paid a salary.

You might want to do a little research on how hotel maids are compensated.

Their pay is tip-based like waiters? Or are you just saying it is minimum wage, like many other jobs?

Anonymous wrote:Truly never occurred to me to tip. I thought this was included in the nightly rate for the hotel plus the resort fees added on at most resorts. I don’t really know anyone who tips housekeeping regularly.

Now that you know, do you plan to tip in the future?

Those of you who would never tip housekeeping, do you tip the bellboy and other male hospitality staff?

Anonymous wrote:No, I don’t tip for housekeeping. It’s not routine, customary, or necessary when staying in a hotel.

Tips are reserved for people who I have personally interacted with. The bellhop who asked about my day and delivered my bags to the room…. The valet who delivered my car at checkout and opened the doors for my kids.

It absolutely is routine and customary and has been for at least 40 years.

You get to decide whether it’s necessary.

I tip in south East Asia and Central America and international beach resorts where they actually do things to earn a tip. Americans are lazy and I’m not tipping for you just doing your job, only when you go above and beyond.

Lol that you think American housekeeping is staffed by Americans

Racist.

My grandmother was a hotel maid for years when she emigrated to the US. She also cleaned houses on her days off. I always tip.

I get my hard work ethic from her, I am sure.

Of course I tip. It's a horrible job. My college roommate's mom was a housekeeper at the Doubletree.

No tip, regardless of whether it's used or not.
