This is what you don’t get. It’s not like republicans made Muslims conservative. It’s that Muslims and conservatives share similar values. Majority of Muslims voted democrat. But now that progressives are forcing their values on Muslims, Muslims feel threatened and are voting republican. The problem is with progressives shoving their values down down everyone’s throats. I am an economically liberal socially conservative muslim. I believe in Medicare for all, unions, breaking up monopolies, an anti-war, etc. I am pro choice and support gay marriage. But now that progressives are pushing their values on my kids in schools, I am no longer voting democrat (not going to vote for republicans either). Democrats only have themselves to blame.
+1. Muslims and progressives are not natural allies, as Muslims voters - like all religious conservatives - oppose LGBTQ rights, abortion access, religious freedoms (except for themselves) and most key liberal views. In the UK, Muslim groups have led the way against COVID mandates, gay marriage, and teaching about sexuality in schools. I don't know why Dems don't learn. Religious conservatives are not our friends - no matter what country they come from

Don’t know about the UK but US Muslims certainly weren’t against Covid mandated and went anti vax. You are right about the other stuff though. By the way I’m not what you would consider religious conservative. I don’t cover my hair. Look pretty “western.” I supported gay marriage because hey to each their own. But I draw the line at this new promotion of trans ideology to our kids. So when you say “religious conservatives” aren’t your friends know that they may mean Muslims that don’t look like religious conservatives and aren’t religious. They just believe that sex is a binary - something that apparently throws you in the MAGA category these days.
I know many liberals who are not on board with the new trans ideology and I, personally, do not support biologically male athletes playing sports with biological females. That said religious conservatives, including many Muslims, do not support a woman's right to abortion, gay marriage, or respect our individual right to privacy. For this reason, I do not, and will likely never, support any religiously conservative candidates. Were I to find myself in Hamtramck or any other city that is now majority conservative, immigrant Muslim, I would absolutely move. Likewise, should I find myself in a small town in upstate NY that were taken over by a majority Hasidic council, I would freaking run. There's so much overlap between those communities and rural, Bible belt America. I stay far, far away

I will add that Muslims such as my self aligned with progressives because we are anti-war, pro-union , pro education, pro-Medicare for all. Progressives don’t care about all of that anymore. They support escalation of war with a nuclear power, abandoned educational excellence (it’s all about equity but instead of achieving equity by aiming high, democrats just want to lower standards. They pay lip service to Medicare for all and even prescription drug reform. But have gone all out on the cultural war, alienating all of us that are socially conservatives (even slightly).

What you don't get is that cooler heads would have told these Muslims that they can't just run roughshod over their neighbors who are not like them. The same grace that they wanted when they first arrived. That this is the hallmark of America. It is the louder voices these day who argue that they get to strike out at things that are not of their religion. That this behavior is even possible in a municipality.

Your response has nothing to do with my comment. I was commenting on how PP said that whatever is happening is no surprise because republicans are courting Muslims. It’s as if Muslims don’t have their own values and brains and are just following republicans. That’s simply not true. The reason that Muslims are voting republican is because of what progressives are doing and not because republicans are courting them.
Oh you mean the GOP that was so recently anti-Muslim has decided to give you a seat at the table because it serves their ends?
I suppose that is flattering to assume inclusion and finding that you have soooo much in common with them (conservative values etc.) Too bad Muslims are little voting blocks the GOP can use to brownish their agenda. Meanwhile, the backbone of their support comes from yhe Evangelicals for whom they will bend over backwards to support. And what do Evangelicals think of Muslims?
https://berkleycenter.georgetown.edu/responses/confronting-christian-islamophobia
You seem to be confused. No one likes the GOP. Muslims aren’t stupid and don’t need YOU to tell them how racist some republicans and evangelicals are. We experienced their racism and are under no illusions. The issue is progressives are pushing Muslims out of the Democratic Party by imposing their values on them. Muslims realize that they are part of a country where different people had different values. Even though Islam is against gay marriage for example you barely heard any opposition from the Muslim community. In fact many Muslims support gay marriage and the equality act with the rationale that we need to support the rights of other minorities because we are a minority. But now it’s gotten to the point where tolerance isn’t enough and progressive values are being forced upon us with no choice and forced on our kids. So yes as a result some Muslims have voted for the GOP as the lesser of the two evils.
It's a 2 party system. So it's one or the other. So for you GOP is the lesser evil?
And I don't know what to tell you?
Hamtramck is embedded in Detroit, nestled in Wayne Country and is firmly in Southeastern Michigan. So unless you are going to airlift your city to Macomb or Western Michigan, you are going to get more pushback regarding these actions than those who are out in rural Michigan.
We'll see what comes out of this.
I am PP. I live in DC not Michigan. I don’t vote GOP. I am simply explaining what’s happening in the Muslim community politically.
Also pre Bush, lots of Arabs and Muslims would vote GOP. The GOP was viewed as better on foreign policy and friendlier to small businesses. Things changed with 9/11. Seems like now there is a lot of movement again to the GOP. This isn’t just with Muslims but with minorities in general… Hispanics… Black men etc
Don't worry. Give any of the GOP leadership a hot mike and I'm sure that will give those minorities a bit of heartburn.
I don’t think you get it. Muslims went through 9/11 and are very aware of what the GOP is capable of and what they think of Muslims. They don’t need you to tell them and they don’t need the GOP to “reveal” themselves. They simply view the GOP as the lesser of two evils because they share the same conservative values. This is the fault of progressives who have decided to impose gender ideology on others.
What irony. Only a Republican mind could distort "allowing gender-affirming care as recommended by physicians" to "impose gender ideology on others."
Let me clear this up for you: if you're not trans, don't seek gender-affirming care. No one is "imposing" anything on you. If you're straight, be straight. If you're against abortion, don't have one.
But of course, in your mind, "not being able to force my social values on 100% of my fellow citizens" and "not being able to theoretically control everybody who disagrees with me" equals "being oppressed".
You are so partisan minded that you can’t even fathom that non-republicans don’t share your views. Yes, I do not want unscientific ideas on gender imposed on my children.
Got it.
So you're in for America being considered a Christian nation?
Because that's what's on the table.
The GOP leadership spoke in front of their premier event at the Faith & Freedom Coalition. They're pull is such that they can make even Trump change his stance.
Have they prioritized any similar events for Muslims? I really don't thinks so.
So if you are thinking they are going to leave your communities alone, because of past behavior, you don't seem to realize the virulence of the current GOP. Don't say you haven't been warned when it bites you on the behind.
So that’s what’s hilarious. Who are you kidding? America already treats this country as a Christian nation? You know when you come and greet us and say “Happy Holidays” because you want to pretend to be inclusive? Well guess what? We have no holidays in December because our holidays aren’t fixed. The White House lights up a Christmas tree. December 25th is a federal holiday. The constitution protects us from any excesses but don’t pretend that this isn’t a Christian nation. Again, we are under no illusions. Stop threatening us with BS because we don’t agree with your anti science ideology and leave our kids alone.
Sorry, you are delusional because of the way the U.S. government has behaved in the past. You haven't seen anything yet. I know. My extended family attend an Evangelical church. Like I said, imagine worse. Or don't worry about it and keep babbling about transgender blah-blah.
