They did the same thing as FCPS during the pandemic ! Its because 1) some of the FCPS parents are special and overly litigious about their rights and 2) OCR only needs to make an example of 1-4 to set a precedent for how education handles the next pandemic or disaster.
Any parent taking FCPS reimbursement or compensatory services has no respect from me. I see you is freeloading inconsiderate humans who only care about yourself. You are hurting the FCPS schools and families. It’s try terrible that you go online and complain that your reimbursement's (which you do not deserve) are not happening fast enough.

I have heard of two different STs who did this (in addition I guess to 8:42s). One of my dc's high school PE teachers canceled class multiple times b/c he was going out of town to referee in person lacrosse games in areas that weren't shut down.

Our school's case manager offered every student from our school who was assigned to that speech therapist four additional 30 minute speech sessions as compensatory services. We turned it down b/c our child is now in MS and we didn't want him to lose instructional time.
Regardless, I don't see how any family that agreed to such a small compensatory offer is "taking advantage" of FCPS. If a family had sought out private speech therapy to make up for this FCPS therapist who should have been fired, they should be reimbursed.

Of course they are going to list all the expenses they think they can. Wouldn't anyone? Is there even a monetary issue? The school system lost a ton of students and high paying teachers and were flush with money during the pandemic. How do we even know there is a monetary problem? There are reports you can find online which say that special needs kids typically cost 4 times more on average that typically parents shell out with some additional subsidies. These kids just cost more to raise. Its a fact that is not goinf away. They are our citizens. Parents typically foot the bill well beyond what a typical child costs.

During the unprecedented global pandemic that shut down healthcare and the economy, Countless school systems across the country did the same thing as FCPS or worse. Those school systems are NOT reimbursing or providing compensatory services. OCR is making an example of FCPS. Families are taking advantage because they can and because families just hate FCPS- no matter what. This is money and time that could be spent on the current needs of ALL students and staff.
I realize the pandemic sucked and affected ALL students across the entire country. I wish FVPS was in-person sooner. But these complaints and demands are non-sense and I don’t feel sorry for any of you. Your expectations and entitlement are appalling.
If you hate FCPS so much, you have the right to move, do private school, or homeschool.
FCPS was found to be violating the law by not having in person school for special needs students. Shame on fcps they need to be held accountable.
Special ed costs are going to blow up FCPS. The rest of the students suffered too and get no compensation. Special ed students in other areas get no compensation. It’s not fair to the other students or the system that we are in the hook for paying all this money to a subset of students.
