As long as there’s somewhere to go for exeat … you can’t leave them at school for exeat.
I went to cheltenham ladies college and loved it, but 1. I’m British so there was no culture shock, and 2. I was 4 hours from home the whole time. International girls seemed to find it harder.

I would only recommend boarding school if trying to get away from an unhealthy parent which is the case for a family we know. Kids want to get away from the parent who is toxic and verbally abusive but besides that I would suggest staying at home.

I went to boarding school in England for the first two years of high school in the 90s. The majority of boarders were high schoolers, but I recall there being a few middle schoolers. I loved my boarding school experience. It was a boarding and day school that had a primary school as well as a combined middle school/high school.

Is this a troll? Sending kids off that young is horrible for family relations. Unless you didn't want to have kids in the first place.

The only time going that young has seemed reasonable to me is situations like the Milton Hershey School, which free and for low income/at-risk kids, and is essentially a private nonprofit alternative to foster care.

I cannot imagine having the means for a nanny or house manager and sending my elementary-aged away instead.

I listen to the podcast by Caroline Stanbury (age 47 ), and she seems to have been pretty traumatized by her experience going to boarding school from such a young age.

English boarding schools are now largely populated with foreign kids. Most Brits do not choose this anymore, including those who went through it themselves.
