Just stop it. He was a rich and successful man, living a good life. He went out for drinks with friends. This isn't a midlife crisis. This is a work trip. And going out for drinks with old friends or colleagues while on a work trip is totally normal. There is nothing to indicate this was sketchy. You know for a fact that he has a friend reading this--- why would you post it? Go away, the man was brutally murdered and you are piling on.

See, this is the problem. In a modern, civilized city lots of people are out and about in the center of any city, look at Europe, there are tourists 24/7 in big cities in their “historic centers”. And here it’s implied that it’s dangerous to be out after sundown. It is somewhat true for SF unfortunately
This wasn’t the center of the city. It’s sort of a weird neighborhood near the water, lots of warehousey type buildings. Some have been converted to offices or condos but definitely not an area that would be considered anything near a city center, tourist center, nightlife area, restaurant center, or any of that.
Yes maybe you are right. I have been there during the day and it was ok, but nighttime might be very different

I am the PP who knew him. I can definitely see how it looks like there is “more” here, based on his recent move and divorce (which happened years ago and was amicable). But I don’t think there is. I think he was out with friends, either couldn’t find an Uber or felt safe to walk, and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Quite possible he had been drinking and didn’t have his wits about him. I so hope the SF police can provide answers.

SF is a complete disaster. Human excrement everywhere. I worked downtown there for years. Just revolting.
I lived in the Bay Area (sf and Oakland) from 1993-2002 and loved it. I still have family in the mission. But I still remember the first time I was waking down the street to sfmoma and a homeless guy just shat on the sidewalk. And my car with nothing in it and doors unlocked (because of smash and grab) was smashed anyway. That’s the day my dream of moving back to sf died.
