JLD in Lanvin. The more I look at it, the more I love it. It makes sense she went with something somewhat understated, but this is very, very pretty understated that suits her perfectly. That's how you do it.

Another fave. Halle Bailey in Dolce. I think she wins for "best visible boning" of the night, though her competition is Mindy and Jaime Lee Curtis, so... Still, this dress is so sweet on her and the color is phenomenal. I love literally everyone who went for a giant gown in a vibrant color, it just makes me smile. That's what I'd do if for some weird reason I was invited to the Oscars and allowed to wear whatever I wanted. It's the fantasy.

A favorite. Sandra Oh in Giambattista Valli. Many people cannot pull off this color so I love that she wore it (because she can) and this is a very well executed version of "Greek Goddess" rendered in something much more surprising and interesting than white or baby blue.

I said this upthread, but I think this dress was selected for how it would look onstage for a win and I do think if she wins it will look amazing up there. The closeups showed that the fabric is this super delicate, fluttering lace with a little bit of shimmer, and I think it will move beautifully. But agree it was extremely underwhelming on the red carpet after a season of her doing a ton of super amazing high fashion. I think she just went with "I want to feel pretty" for the big night, which is totally her prerogative, but as a viewer of course I want more drama.


It's too shapeless.

They are a smidge stripper-y BUT I actually get it because I think the extra height with the slit is taking the whole thing next level. I think they would be better if they were a matte red a shade or two darker than the dress, or maybe if the straps were bejeweled to match her necklace/bracelet? But the platform plus meg-height is what is giving that killer leg line and I can't hate it.

Ruth Carter in Valentino. I hate the fit of this (especially whatever it is doing to her boobs) but the color is WOW gorgeous and I can't help but love the pink lining peeking out.
