For what it's worth my nephew transferred from Emory to Michigan b/c there wasn't enough school spirit at Emory and sports. with that said, my sister loved Emory. though it was a lovely, well run school.

FWIW our DC is at Tulane on a substantial merit scholarship. Those are harder to get at Emory; not sure about Washington U. Tulane isn’t all that big so DC has gotten to know professors and has a mentor in each of DC’s two majors. GPA is high and good opportunities for leadership, working with mentors, Greek life, study abroad and career paths. This might be true at many schools, but I’m just noting DC’s experience at Tulane.

Jewish posters may consider that among factors that make a school prestigious. I have read that Jewish people are the most intelligent culture/religion/heritage so a high percentage of Jewish students suggest that the academic standards are high.


I just googled this and there are many sources. (I love diversity of all types. I am not Jewish, but I want my children in school with lots of Asian & Jewish students as I feel comfortable that the academics expectations & standards will be very high.)

+1 Asian and Jewish students tend to be very intelligent. Many are brilliant when it comes to academics.

People on DCUM are anti-Tulane. Tulane is ranked #44. SMU and GW are in the 60s and 70s. They are not equal in academics and prestige.


Even Tulane considers SMU and GW as peers (along with the likes of Syracuse and U Miami).

Emory is in a much better city than WashU. And although WashU is higher ranked, I feel Emory is more well known.

They’re all great schools but you should consider the school environment. They all have beautiful campuses and in cities w lots to do BUT speaking as someone who has spent a lot of time in all 3 cities, I would be most nervous as a parent for my kid to be in STL or New Orleans. Both high crime cities. I’d feel much less worried if they were at Emory. It’s in a really nice area.
