A really good, and timely, series is Fauda: it’s a balanced show produced in Israel with high production values which does a good job of showing both sides fairly.
Probably decent for a 16 year old.

My 15 year old is watching Suits and loves it. Not what I ever would have thought of but he is watching alone and keeps telling us we need to watch!
