No because our grocery stores are filled with “food” that is loaded with chemicals and preservatives that destroy peoples gut health. And because for many overeating and obesity are symptomatic of greater issues that diet itself cannot resolve.

Were you born stupid or just dropped on your head as a baby or something?

Maybe you should exercise for weight loss, since you clearly have a lot of pent up anger?

That isn’t anger, toots. That’s putting someone in their place. Big difference.

Oh sweetheart, the drugs may help you get the weight off, but at some point you're going to have to address the underlying issues that caused you to get obese in the first place. Those aren't going to go away just because you lost some lbs with drugs.

Not very pleasant, but true.

? The underlying issue for most obese people is insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. The Ozempic does address the underlying issues. That’s why they work so well.

It's more complicated that IR and metabolics. I'm taking semaglutide and my mental difference is boggling - I'm assuming because I'm finally reacting to insulin as a normal person does. But once I stop, if I don't relearn some behaviors, I won't keep the weight off. Food is so complicated. The pp might be coarse and making comments out of hatred rather than from a helpful place, but they're not totally wrong. I need to figure out why my brain wants the warm hug from a bag of potato chips and address it, or I'll need to stay on semaglutide forever.

UNLESS this is addressing the underlying issues (for many people)? Being overweight is not a moral failing, no matter how much you try to make it true.

Again. Do you say or worry about this for other health conditions remediated by pharmaceuticals or only overweight people? Do you say lthis to people with high cholesterol, even those with type 2 diabetes?

NP. They will never answer this accurately. DCUMs disordered eaters are incandescent with rage that these drugs exist and work very well for some obese people. It has triggered their deep psychological issues around weight, and they will never, ever be able to accept that obesity can be managed as a chronic medical condition the way that people manage high blood pressure, acne, infertility, depression, etc. To admit that would force them to confront their own serious mental health disorders. They will never do that.

DP. First, the fake sweetheart is so tired and low energy. It does nothing for your post except make you sound really condescending and petty.

Second, why are so many people mad about overweight having tools (drugs) to deal with their weight? Do you say the same thing on mental health posts about people taking meds for anxiety? Or people taking meds for high blood pressure? Do say this to people using acne medication to stop using it and deal with why you have acne in the first place?

I really think it’s pure jealousy and a false sense of superiority.

I’ve been on a semaglutide for over 5 years, lost over 100lbs. And it’s so great that this medication has made my “underlying issue of why I became obese” just disappear. It’s great. Love these meds, I hope everyone that needs them and wants to try them, reaches out to their doctor and gives it a shot! (Pun intended).

^ This is how pharma investors speak, like expensive prescriptions are the key to complete happiness.

Definitely not the key to complete happiness. But I feel great getting rid of the extra weight. Still wondering if you say this to the folks taking anxiety meds or kids taking Accutane when they are overjoyed when their skin clears up? Or folks taking Lexapro or Zoloft get happy when their depression lifts? So weird how these people only hate on overweight people taking medication loosing weight. So sad.

Someone here knows an awful lot about pharma.

Yep, because I'm a Pharmacist!

Bingo!

What's wrong with being a Pharmacist? I work for a hospital in IT.

Still waiting on your response about why you only care about overweight people taking meds? And not others with health conditions remediated by pharmaceutical intervention? What's your beef?

You have no clue who or what all I care about. Bye!

That's what I thought. Have the day you deserve.

The personal trainer here needs to shut his yap. My husband is an athletic trainer for a professional hockey team. He has always said that abs are made in the kitchen and it’s 90% about diet. Clearly the personal trainer doesn’t know much of he thinks it’s all about exercise! My husband trains actual athletes and he says when it comes to weight loss, you could sit on your couch all day doing nothing, and still lose weight, if you eat a proper diet. These drugs are lifesavers for obese people with type 2 diabetes.

Why did you need to lose 100 lbs in the first place? Were you actually unhealthy? Or did your doctor fat shame you into doing it?

Actually, other than sore knees and high blood pressure (which is serious), I was pretty healthy. My regular doctor didn't even know I was on it. I volunteered for a study, little did I know it was for the now named Wegovy. Heard about the study on the radio.

I was born overweight and had been overweight my entire life. But not anymore, if I have to stay on these medications for the rest of my life, fine with me. Right now, I'm on a maintenance dose and only take a shot once a month.
