That's some progress, as compared to over 100 homicides per 100k in 2015 - but it also hinges on a recent, shaky ceasefire with some of the major gangs.
But even with a temporary detente between gangs it's still more than 5 times higher than Baltimore's homicide rate, which has been between 5 and 6 per 100k. And, many places outside of San Salvador are even more dangerous.
So, while you have a valid point about any child being allowed to buy a gun at their local Walmart (along with people with serious mental illness etc) Baltimore is still safer than San Salvador.

Are you suggesting regime change or dumping money into corrupt governments? Neither has worked in the past and has made things worse in many instances.

I want more immigration to ensure the R party is rendered defeated in perpetuity. Latin immigrants have American-born children that go on to vote heavily Democratic, even if their parents aren’t able to vote themselves right now. And with some sort of future legislation or EO establishing citizenship for current immigrants they’ll vote reliably Democratic too. My opposition to a border has nothing to do with globalization or the economy, it’s just about beating the R’s. All politics is local, and we have lots of red areas of this country that immigrants can help turn blue. It’s a numbers game. The solution is pretty easy in every way except politically. Make it easy for employers to get temporary work visas that comply with labor and tax laws and make it easy for immigrant workers to register for the work visas. Bust and punish the employers and workers who don’t comply with the terms and cut them off from the work visa program. Increase enforcement against agriculture, construction, and other rogue employers that are the reasons immigrant workers come here illegally. Republicans won’t vote for any of that.

I agree with you, Dems are at least trying to solve the problem while the GOP just wants an issue to get their base riled up.
Having said that, it's tough to spend money on these countries when you don't trust their governments or anybody else there to make sure that money goes where it's actually supposed to.
The GOP has no desire to solve the problem, it's one of their favorite ways to fire up the base -- and it works.
Trump and the GOP could have come up with a solution when they controlled the country, they didn't as it doesn't help them to fix the issues.

Trump didn’t do anything except grift. They couldn’t even pass annual appropriations until Democrats won the House and Pelosi took charge. The only thing that slowed down immigration was the Covid restrictions that all you idiots opposed.
