Unlike nescac’s they don’t collude and aren’t nearly as worried about yield protection

This is what we did too. No safety, just strong match/likely. Visited Case, really liked it. We heard back earlier this week and in with good enough merit aid for us. So the rest of the applications are reaches and a couple of matches.

There’s a difference between “pretty confident my kid will get in” and safety.

DP - UMD is a safety for your kid no matter the major. While your kid's stats are excellent, I'm not sure about BK. All kids considered for BK have almost perfect stats. What is his wt GPA and how many APs has he taken? Our kids won BK twice - one partial, the other full. I can't tell you how nice it has been.

Weighted GPA is 4.77. What are his chances for BK? Even partial?

PP you are responding to. Short answer is -- who knows? Your kid sounds like have good enough stats for consideration but I do believe BK selection committee looks for something more than good stats. Selection is not linear. Good luck.

For the EA/ED round? In-state for CS. UMD. It was both target and safety for us. 4.7, 1600. And everything else that goes with such stats. Full pay. Asian-American male. Applied to East Coast colleges. Two privates. All the rest were publics. Applied to 6 colleges in all. Got into 4. All were targets and safeties. Avoided Republican states, rural areas, huge greek life, colleges with low internship opportunities, or low diversity. ED did not work out. Thank you, God! That was really a dumb move on our part.

Kept UMBC for RA. To others, I would recommend both UMD and UMBC for EA round. My kid ran out of time.

GMU, which also happens to be my Alma mater. I’m an FSO so it didn’t hurt me.

PP- my son who is at UMD had a 1580, all 5s on AP. 3.9 un, 4.6 weighted. He is did university honors and is the Smith school of business, he enter school with 34 credits and will graduate with a masters degree in 4 years. CS is top ten at UMD, hope your kid considers it.
