You have your own religion? How did you start it?
BTW we serve mock tails my company and my wife attended twice when pregnant. She ate food, had a Virgin pina colada or a soda. I only drink 2-3 drinks as wife with me a boss. Very little drinking going on. I have more cokes and coffee then liquor
It's called Islam. There are a lot of countries where alcohol is forbidden. I guess you don't travel outside of the US much or have Muslim friends/co-workers.

The difference is literally attending work events. My old company 10 years ago had an event and people were asking where was I. When I got reached out to I realized not a single person out of the 10-15 people I actually worked with directly. All socializing. I have 95 percent of my connections through events. For instance one party back in 1997 we did mechanical Bull riding in suits. I got tossed hard so did my coworker. He happens to be a CEO now. I ran into him and he started laughing and joking about our bull ride from 25 years ago!! No way he would remember me otherwise

Your job isn’t being threatened by your subordinates since they obviously lack the common sense and political savvy to see the networking opportunity right in front of them. Those kids will just quiet quit and lateral move to a different company and do the same.

No one is forcing you to drink alcohol.
You can have a ginger ale or sparkling water with lime.
Bunch of dimwits on this thread
Dimwits are the people who think cocktail parties at work should be mandatory.

These events were rarely mandatory, but people noticed who showed up. Talking to junior staff about their attendance would be helpful if they are unaware of the expectation to attend. However, it shouldn't be brought up in a performance review. It's something that a mentor would tell them as a tip on office culture. I'm assuming, too, that these junior staffers are professionals who expect to rise to higher roles.
I’ve always thought these things are mandatory’ish but it certainly is awkward in these virus laden times. I’m going to something on Thurs of this week that seemed too awkward to skip but there’s a decent chance it ruins my trip three days later and possibly means I bring a virus to elderly relatives.
