Poor Orthodox Ukrainian church. They were ready to welcome the "winning" side.
"For centuries the ancient Ukrainian branch of the church has been subordinate to the Russian Orthodox Church, based in Moscow. The leader of the Russian church, Patriarch Kirill, has strong ties to President Vladimir V. Putin, whose long tenure he has called “a miracle of God,” and has endorsed the invasion."

Any "man of god" who endorses a violent, brutal invasion of an innocent neighboring nation and justifies wanton killing of civilians is a COMPLETE FRAUD.
That innocent neighboring nation killed 10,000+ ethnic Russian civilians prior to the invasion. They shelled towns and let loose fascist paramilitary forces to slaughter civilians.
Very few countries are innocent. It doesn't mean that Russia starting a war is justified. And it is true, no man of God would endorse starting a war. "Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.. Bless are the meek for they will inherit the earth".
I believe Putin (and Rs these days) don't believe in being meek.
But you see, you're perfectly willing to write off any casualties in Donbas before the invasion - while you weep for the casualties after.
But you see, Russia shouldn’t have started sh— there either.
If you agree with Ukraine shelling Donbas that wanted to separate, you must agree with Russia shelling Grozny too.
Nope. Just like I won’t support Texas seceding.
Then Putin was perfectly within his right to shell Chechnya.
The only consistency you'll find here is that its ok when our guys do it and bad when the other guy does it. Everything else is window dressing.
That's exactly what I said in my original comment.
Ukraine shelling Donbas separatists = they are defending their country's integrity and fighting Russia.
Russia shelling Chechen separatists = human rights criminals, oppressors of freedom.
Stop calling them "Donbas separatists" - from the start it always was a soft invasion by Putin, using FSB, Wagner mercenaries, etc.

Stop this BS narrative. There was no shelling before 2014. It all started after Putin's corrupt criminal puppet Yanukovich was thrown out after betraying a popular majority will to join the EU. If it was truly just some purely homegrown organic separatist movement then why was Donbas full of known FSB agents like Igor Girkin, why was Donbas full of known Wagner mercenaries, why were they seizing control of local goverrnments in Donbas?
The so-called separatist movement was nothing more than Putin attempting to destabilize Ukraine and cause a civil war after his guy Yanukovich was thrown out.

PP here.. I have never stated anything of that nature. I was responding to the ^^PP statement about how the Orthodoxy church in Ukraine supports Russia's invasion of Ukraine. No man of God would support such a war.
Zelensky, no matter how flawed, is the "man of the year" for standing up to Putin and Russia. I know that MAGA and Trump would've bowed down to Putin's invasion. Zelensky is tougher than Trump, who time and time again blamed generals for his own failings, but took credit as CiC if something went well. So glad Trump is out of the WH. The world, and Ukraine especially, is better for it.
Somehow Putin didn't recognize this. He chose not to invade when Trump was President, but chose to invade when Obama was President and when Biden was President.
