Read the awesome book “Fortune Cookie Chronicles” and you will feel joyful about eating Chinese food on traditional American holidays.

This thread popped into my head today and I'm curious if OP has an update?

I'm the OP. I didn't have your posts removed. There's nothing wrong with me?

I am just happy it’s just me and my son this year. He wants a giant pizza, I have some ethnic food I grew up with, we are fine.
Sorry OP you have to deal with all the relatives though… let your DH do the explaining?

Why is "the man's" desire the most important?

He cooks the food.

OP - cook your mom’s turkey, add dressing or mashed potatoes, and a green vegetable. Order the Chinese food and make/buy a pie or three.

Side note: a friend’s mom is Chinese and the last Thanksgiving we went to at their house had a full traditional spread and then 4-5 Chinese dishes. It was awesome.

But when a woman posted saying she wanted to cancel Thanksgiving (the daughter was sick or something), everyone got made and called her selfish. What's the difference?

I missed that one. There is no difference. Your kid is sick, cancel. People get angry because you have to cancel due to sickness need to get a grip.

It's about family enjoying eachother and gratitude, not the specific food and his well-being is more important than Turkey. You can always make Thanksgiving stuff for Christmas.
