Interesting development.

Let’s face it: the guy has a history of mental illness and threatened violence. Scrubbing his record caused red flag laws to fail, which allowed him to obtain a firearm.

It's been bothering me for a couple of days that this thread is in the "political" forum.

Why is a thread about a mass shooting something that is "political"? Is domestic terrorism "political" or is it something else? I wonder and worry about what we are letting come into the light when there is space for political debate around events like this.

This was a hate crime. It's not a set of agriculture policies that reasonable people could debate over and have different views on.

Indeed, if Americans actually voted in line with their policy preferences, we'd be in a much better place. However, many voters would rather vote for Republican culture warriors who virtue signal about critical race theory and scaremonger about crime and socialism than Democrats who are actually aligned with their policy preferences.

Still wrong. We have minority majority rule right now with the electoral college, redistricting, and population trends. It’s not the voters. This last election was historic. We’ll see what happens.

BTW, voters should vote blue for those changes.

Gun owners keep electing GOP. What's not to understand there? If they cared more about safety, they'd vote for politicians who care about safety. 70% want something but don't want to vote to get it, therefore they don't want it that badly. If they keep electing Republicans who care more about gaining and keeping power, they're content with the situation. If they want change, they need to vote for change. It feels almost like we're agreeing- it's the GOP refusing to make laws that will change things for the better. It's gun owners (not every gun owner, and not only gun owners, but a huge number of gun owners) who vote for those Republicans who are NRA lackeys. So I don't really care how they answer polls and act sad after mass shootings. Their votes are what matter. Also, they still own guns, and you have to have a gun to shoot a gun. They could be the change they want to see, starting with not owning more guns that people in their homes.
