I always think dcum is weirdly insistent that having a sah parent is so crucial to making life successful and once kids are at school it’s completely unnecessary. Lots of jobs with flex so you can still do all the things, esp if you don’t mind using a babysitter to drive kids to afterschool activities


It is nice not having to cram everything into the weekend. And why would work if you really don't need to? Plus we have frequent lunch dates and a lot more sex while DS is at school.

I know one who was super involved and organized but he went back to work when his daughter started full day school so it was only about 4 ish years he was out of the workforce. He was awesome and is still super involved as a parent.

I know another one in nyc whose wife makes a lot of money and he was an “artist.” He does not do a lot.

Fcps day doesn’t even end until 4:05. By the time the kids need to go to activities my day is entirely over.

I have three female friends who are doctors. Their husbands are lawyers, another doctor and a government worker. I don’t know any Sage’s unless they sold a company or something. They are not at home cleaning and cooking like I am.

I googled and didn't find it. Found a lot about getting married and having babies seeming to cause a drop in testosterone, which in turn causes men to stay home more, but that's the reverse causal effect. I call bs on this.

I agree, but LOL at the description of SAHMs, given the number of people on this board who seem to think that it's unreasonable to expect a SAHM to cook, keep the house clean, etc., because apparently taking care of kids is just so hard that she can't be expected to do dishes during the day.
