Someone noted this video earlier in the thread but I wanted to post the link again. The Washington Post linked to this as well. This is a short video demonstrating the "Run, Hide, Fight" process for surviving a mass shooting. It is a very well-produced, pragmatic video, and yes, it's hard to watch, even knowing that you are only seeing actors. But it is spot on, and tracks perfectly with other active shooter training I have had and articles I've read.
Please -- watch it, have your teens and college age kids watch it, talk about it, and have your spouses watch as well. You might think you know what to do, but seeing it in
For those farther above in the thread saying fighting wasn't a thing -- yes, it is, if it has to be. This video doesn't go all the way in showing people actually fighting but the steps it depicts (like finding weapons in the room where you are, such as fire extinguishers, chairs, etc.) are, again, spot on for what experts say to do.

Thank you, wasn't easy but worth a watch. My employer sends out a course every year but this is better.

I was a witness to a school shooting in the 90s. The police were out fire powered and also seemed unsure of what to do and just barricades themselves behind cars. It took another student running and tackling the shooter when he went to reload his semi automatic weapon to stop him. I probably would have been dead had that guy not fought back. He has done only one interview re this, and he said he had the sense the police were clueless and his only way to survive was to get the gun.
You think fighting won’t work, if it’s your only option? Either that or die.

I've taken active shooter training, given by the FBI. If you are involved in a shooting you "Run, Hide or Fight". Obviously the best choice it to flee the scene quickly. If you can't, you hide as best as you can. If you can't hide, they absolutely recommend fighting the shooter. Being a sitting duck is not a good idea. If you are throwing things at the shooter, or attempting to tackle them, it's easier to disarm them. Yes you may die, but they are working on the calculation you are going to die anyhow if you do nothing at this point.

My guess is that you have not had "Active Shooter Training." Sadly, our kids have had that.
I also have to go through it at my workplace (a university). This is the country we have built.
And half of Americans vote for a party that thinks that is fine.
The price they pay for lower taxes and "alleged" freedom is having our kids get such texts and hide out terrified at home, from time to time.
Wish we, as American adults, could do better. And not think this is okay or worth it or normal.
