We are appalled by the arrogant, dismissive attitude of the school board member about the overcrowding there and not sure we can stomach sending DC there.
Longfellow is a great school. Lot of smart kids and extremely competitive to get into TJ. My child got in last year from Longfellow
For a good or easy chance to get into TJ you can be out of feeder schools

FALSE, because of the improvements to the selection process more deserving students are being selected now than in years past.
In the past they most just picked kids who could afford prep classes which were mostly from a few wealthy schools. This wasn't the same thing as the most gifted, but people who were gaming admissions.
Many parents are upset the backdoor is no longer accessible and haven't given up gaming the system.

Yes, the kids from schools where they traditionally can't afford the test answers.

There are top math students including MathCounts winners and participants in USAJMO who were not admitted. Academies of Loudoun seems to be doing a better job of selecting the top kids within a school, even if it has a maximum quota per school.

Stop with the "if you got into TJ in the past you must have prepped." Was there prepping going on - absolutely. Did every TJ admit in the past do it? Heck no. And for the most part, it was the non-prepped kids that did well at TJ. Per the urban myth that everyone spent ungodly late nights on homework or needed massive tutoring. While I believe the current system is a way over-reaction and more an excuse by the SB to appear "woke"................I'm hoping the end result is that kids who don't need prepping are the ones that get admitted - and succeed - at TJ.

Not funny. More qualified students are not getting a fair shot at TJ and other students who are leaving after a year or two are taking up spots that will never be filled.
They’re getting a plenty fair shot at TJ. They’re just not measuring up to the other 40 kids at their school who ARE getting admitted. So instead of remaining in those kids’ shadows at TJ, they’re getting a chance to shine at their base school.
