I ignored all of the negative campaigning in the Ward 3 Council race, perhaps to my detriment, including a false personal attack against my campaign chair on this listserv and some individuals placing stickers reading “Endorsed by the Koch Bros.” on my campaign signs, which was both obviously untrue and offensive. I generally don’t respond to negative campaigning by close supporters of my opponent, because I want to speak about positive solutions to issues that concern our Ward 3 families, but I'll make an exception in this case.
This time my opponent’s close supporters, coordinated by a close personal friend of my opponent, are trying to allege that I am misleading people through campaign signs. I won't personally name the individual (per listserv policy) spearheading this coordinated negative campaigning with school PTOs, but I am deeply disturbed by this individual's behavior. He called me twice in Ward 3 Council race ranting in an unhinged manner about the MacArthur High School. He recorded a third phone call without my knowledge. He runs an anonymous Twitter account @CapitalFlamer, which he uses to attack our fellow citizens in an aggressive fashion. (I've saved screenshots of the Tweets in case he takes it down.) When my dog died of throat cancer, he tweeted his condolences to me, and then offered them again to me as himself in the ANC 3D chat, pretending he was learning of my dog's death for the first time. This man's behavior is so disturbing, I have felt the need to show my children his picture, so they will know to immediately come inside the house if they see him outside.
As for my signs. I think all campaign signs look very tacky but are, unfortunately, a necessary part of campaigning. Since I had to make campaign signs again, I was looking to make something unique from the Ward 3 Council race. I thought our Ward 3 children would really enjoy seeing their school logos on the signs, and in fact, this has been what has happened. Children love picking out their logo and telling me their mascot. I got the inclusion of the logos approved by the Office of Campaign Finance ahead-of-time, and because everyone knows that public schools cannot endorse political candidates, there certainly wasn't any intent to "mislead" anyone into thinking all of our Ward 3 DC Public Schools have endorsed me, and I don't think anyone has genuinely been confused.
I have seen e-mails to Key and Hardy parents suggesting that school logos on my campaign signs will somehow risk the tax-exempt status of parent teacher organizations (PTOs), which is completely untrue and a misleading scare tactic. Just in case there is any genuine confusion, no PTOs, principals, or DCPS schools could ever endorse either candidate. I'll post something positive and substantive about my State Board of Education race tonight, but I wanted to respond to this first. Please try to ignore these negative attacks by my opponent, and if you ever have any questions about me, you can call me on my personal cell phone at (202) 641-5122 or e-mail me at goulet4ward3@gmail.com.

Sorry Eric, the Office of Campaign Finance does not have the authority to gran permission to use trademarked or copyrighted materials without permission from the rights holder, which in this case, is the non-profit entities controlled by the parents of each of the individual schools. Sorry you don't understand rights law 101, but facts matter. You have really pissed off the parent bodies of these schools.
Have you checked with OCF to confirm if he is lying?

So did all the PTAs I believe. Some people are trying to claim that this represents political activity, believe it or not.
