Living so close to the Port of Baltimore, stolen cars are shipped around the world. The doc above focuses on west africa, but stolen cars are shipped EVERYWHERE. Car jackers are the very bottom of the food chain for this economy.

Car companies intentionally make their vehicles easy to steal. It's an entire racket that is enabled. As is the drug addiction poverty cycle. Most caught in both cycles are white, not black. But the news only publicizes the blacks and latinos.

These are facts.

How are they allowing cars to be loaded onto ships in Baltimore en masse, without any paper trail? It seems to me that's a clear bottleneck for LEOs to start with. And if they kill the demand for stolen cars, the rest of the chain collapses.

This is not discussed enough. Also the illegal arms industry and the illegal art heist industry.

PSA: Stop blaming single mothers for criminality.

Facts:

- Half of all children are born to single mothers.
- Half of children born in wedlock are products of divorced parents by age 3.

It's not parenthood. It's poverty.

And somehow all of that is blamed on "wypipo" and "gentrifiers" and "limousine liberals" as if it somehow excuses the longstanding cultural dysfunction that was already there before the gentrifiers even showed up.

Mostly dysfunctional, abusive homes.

Yeah, I was just in Idaho visiting family, and LOL at the idea that they are all "good and decent people." They are white, which is why people think they must be more virtuous. In fact, they are just people, no better than anyone else, with their share of violent trash. The teachers talk about how the week before a break is impossible because many of the kids are freaking out about having to be home all day, since so many come from unstable, abusive families. Someone stole equipment from a camp for at-risk kids last week. One issue of the teeny-tiny local paper had articles on three different murders. One victim was a woman and two were elderly. Plenty of criminals, including violent ones, to go around, they are just more spread out and there are fewer people. Violent crime is a problem EVERYWHERE, not just in DC or big cities.

This has been the case everywhere I've ever been. In majority white areas, it's low-income, dysfunctional white families that have problems. In majority latino areas, it's low-income, dysfunctional latino families that have problems.

I agree with the poster above mandatory after school reading camps, math and writing camps for kids performing below PARCC benchmark standards.

Teachers could be paid time and a half, their parents could work extra hours and the kids get the education they need and moreover the community wouldn't have to worry about teens being unsupervised.

Think about this, parents of all ethnicities who are socioeconomically well to do often have the resources to schedule their children in various activities to keep them busy and out of trouble. Parents at the lower economic end of the scale don't have the resources or access.

This is a societal issue. Society is broken, not these children. To blame only the parents and teens is low vibrational. Society needs to do better.

There is nobody out there anyway so why not build a town and essentially fence it off in like Idaho or Montana. Kind of like Australia for the British. They'll have to learn a new way of life but they would not be allowed back out of the state

+100, it's the same for Colorado!

The good and decent people of Idaho and Montana don’t want your violent city criminal trash.

Better idea - fence off DC and let the criminals stay right where they are. You created them. YOU can deal with them.

Pps idea wint work but all the people in Idaho and montana aren't all upstanding citizens.

DC needs to create more after school programs for teens.

Moreover, crime happens everywhere.

This is a result of decades of the US government instituting polices (according to history) that detrimentally affected African American communities.

Slavery (the US has not reconciled for its wrong), Jim Crow, redlining, chain gang, medical experimentation, government dropping crack into their communities, Gov't pushing welfare in the post 1960s, prison to pipeline policies, lack of proper funding in their schools, lead based water & paint.

I could go on.

This is a problem yes, but the larger issue is systemic.

After school and summer programs. Including reading camp, math, and coaching on life skills. Summer jobs and things to keep them busy. And there are probably already millions and millions in taxpayer dollars out there for that. But the disconnect seems to be that the DC kids who need those the most aren't getting them. Some of those, like reading camp, should be mandatory, for kids who are significantly underperforming.
